Sketch thread? There used to be a lot of those.
-
Here's my morning warmup sketch, a Honda-ish Kei car.
-
@phenotyp Nice. Johnny Cab MkII
-
@phenotyp i spent like 8 hours trying to get the colors to work on this
Someday I'll be able to understand inkscape and drawing in color -
@sony1492 Don't worry about color until you're confident with dimensions.
-
@phenotyp Keep 'em coming.
-
@chariotoflove Wish I could just link to the sketch tag on Kinja...
-
@phenotyp im confident enough to start needing color that will better define depth. Will sticking to grey help much, or just go whole hog and try colors?
-
@sony1492 Do it B/W first.
-
@phenotyp Very cool, looks like a fun little future commuter.
My daughters have started a nightly family drawing time, for which they prompt us on 5-minute(very-ish) sketches. I usually find a way to draw a car, the most recent being this Mustang. The hatchback is a buddy's Hyundai Excel from high school, which another friend recently challenged me to draw in the group chat. Took a couple of starts to feel like I got the wheelbase right, and the kids helped.
-
@phenotyp this is the lady car drawing saved in my phone. I can’t take credit for this one. A little girl gave it to me as a tip.
-
@phenotyp I'm slightly jealous of your mad skills.
Here's my rough sketching something like my profile pic, but with some side baggage, a-la the new Defender:
-
@sony1492 Here's a quick overlay, trying to work out proportions, seating, etc. It's kinda Jag E-type coupe/BMW Clownshoe/MGB?
-
@phenotyp Bear with me on the info dump.
Chassis in question: Wheelbase is 96", total width is 71" front and 74" Rear with roughly 265 section width tires, Floor of chassis to top of engine is roughly 27", chassis is 46" wide around passenger area.
Im thinking a very wide lotus Elite, with a Jag rear end, im open to ideas design wise. A very large consideration is that ill be making the panels by hand so they can't be too complex, windshield is a consideration As too much rake will be hard to find in the 50-48" width. (Current plan is to harvest a beetle or mgb)Side exit exhaust is forced by where the turbos sit and lack of room in the trans tunnel(maybe hope of stuffing it behind the rear tire but unlikely
-
@sony1492 Whoa. Ok, that's a very different thing.
-
@sony1492 What are you thinking for exterior panels? Aluminum or composite?
-
@phenotyp Aluminum primarily and likely steel for the a-c pillars.
Did go through and briefly think about what would be cool to build if I could have any headlights, the idea of lotus's elise and cadillacs thin beam that stick on an edge always looked striking -
-
-
@phenotyp pulling the front fender alllll the way back is an interesting idea.
-
@sony1492 I like it. What are you thinking about for taillights?
-
@sony1492 it kinda reminds me of a Cheetah a bit.
-
@phenotyp
just dreaming, I think generic square lights like caterhams have will be what it gets. Shoehorning oe lights onto kit cars tends to be obvious and bad looking
-
A bit? It's 100% Cheetah.
-
@classicdatsundebate pretty much, but with less footwell space
-
Had a concept for a sports car inspired by smooth, non aggressive lines with an organic or wave like feel. Still very much a WIP but this is what I have so far from a rear view.
