Bike folks- what is this?

Weird trike thing, seems to be pretty streamlined. Had a long nose to it. Map of the great lakes stenciled on the side?
-
@qaaaaa a recumbent trike with an aero fairing, sometimes referred to a velomobile. there are different shells to go over a recumbent frame, so identifying with that limited view might be tough.

@qaaaaa just noticed the background- University of Dayton. looks like something a mechanical engineering professor would be happy to pedal around in, all the while thinking about Bernoulli's equation and efficiency, etc.
-
@xsnowpig That's where I work, there's a few interesting vehicles I see regularly. One professor who parks near the engineering building rides a Genuine Stella, the older one with the shifty two stroke. Very cool. The guy in the velomobile rode through campus in front of me but didn't go into the faculty/staff lot I park in. If I walk to lunch today I'll look around, I'd like to have a closer look at this one

As others said, it's a velomobile. If you'd like to dip your toes in the weird and wonderful world of velomobiles and other recumbent bikes, I recommend visiting http://www.bentrideronline.com/?s=velomobile
There are a couple of recumbent shops in Ohio. One of them might stock velomobiles.

Looks like it would get very hot inside that thing. Then again, I'm in Texas.

You aren't wrong, especially when the rider is pedaling hard. That's why many of them are available with a supplemental electric drivetrain. It's also probably why he has the canopy standing wide open at the stoplight.
