Seems I've upset the Brownell...
-
Seems my questioning of Bradley's challenge was met with name calling. I may have an opinion that folks see as wrong, but there's something funny about an author calling a reader a dingus that gave me a good laugh.

Never cross a man that lives in Reno
-
@rctothefuture I gotta know what you said now...
(i'm sure it was more reasonable than his response, though.) -
@rctothefuture Shilling re-grayed me this morning for talking shit about him changing an air filter and writing an article about it. Brad usually seems pretty cool but he does plenty of goofy stuff too. Can't make fun of him for almost dying though
-
@spacekraken To be fair, I made fun of his challenge to go all electric this month. I pointed out as a journalist working from home, his old routine would make this challenge much easier than presented.

Never rub your sticks together with a man from Sparks.

@zaphod-s-heart-of-gold I just read that article. Jiffy Lube every couple of years. A real automotive enthusiast that Shilling.
-
Brownell is always snooty in the comments. I never liked him as an author anyway though
-
By this definition (https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=dingus), I'd say dingus was a good name to call you. No need to get yer back up. I'm gonna us it agin the Old Farts when they get on my nerves.

I see Brownell as much more thin skinned and prickly than Shilling. Although Shilling isn't very thick skinned either.
-
TIL: 'dingus' can be an endearing term!
-
@rctothefuture just saw it. Totally agree with you lol.
Also if he has a 3-4 mile commute, SMFH on using electric motors to get there. That's walk or bicycle territory, c'mon. Gotta set a challenge that's actually slightly challenging.
He should do this challenge instead, no charging any of the five...
-
Kaiserserser is funny!

@civicwagonengineer I gave a pretty good critique of his Ram TRX article and I know he read it but didn't want to comment.
My issue is that most of his articles always feel the need to push an agenda when it's not necessary. I let him know that if he feels trucks are too big, too unsafe, and too dangerous to the environment then he should write an article about it.
When doing a review, he can reference that article so his bias is shown throughout the review and we can still enjoy the review. Instead of telling us about the truck in detail we got "Drives fast, OK on roads, sounds good I guess. Anyway, these things are killing the planet and you should feel awful for liking them."
A good journalist can have bias, it's completely acceptable in this day and age. If you absoultey hate a vehicle, base it on the metrics set forth per your review process. Look at Jeremy Clarkson, he's always hated Tesla but when he reviews them he praises the performance and handling. He points out the value, build quality and issues with an EV. He doesn't spend half the review explaining why EV's are stupid or why Elon is an idiot. He saves that for another day.
It's basic stuff, I don't know how people can't figure this out.
-
The only good thing Brownell has ever done was be involved with starting Radwood.
Other than that, he can go pound sand.
-
@spacekraken oooo, now there is a challenge!
Human Powered Commutes only!
-
Hang around here long enough, I'm sure plenty of people would be happy to call you a dingus for free.
Not because you are, per se. It's just fun to call someone a dingus, dingus. -

He actually answered after your first comment that he commutes to an office every weekday and you added a "snarky" comment so it's not that shocking of an answer.
-
@jb-boin oh the whole comment is pure snark. I usually do that to get his attention and then go from there.
-
@ramblinrover DingusToTheFuture is my new handle when I get greyed out on the FP.
-
@rctothefuture considering we just hit heating season, I'm pretty sure there's a chance I'd either die or at least sustain severe property damage if I tried that no fossil fuels thing. Oh, and also definitely get fired.
-
I think both of you complaining about the responses you're getting from authors on our former parent site are getting exactly what you deserve.
You agree to follow our "Be Awesome" mantra around here, and yet you go and abuse Jalopnik staff simply because you happen to not agree with them.
I don't care if you agree with them or not, but maybe stop being an ass and you'll stop being treated like one.
-
@rctothefuture I mean, I daily'd an e-bike for a year and 1200 miles and these days I'm faster on my non-e-bike, so... yeah I'm down!
In all seriousness my parents were somewhat WFH long before covid, and a single EV worked fantastically. No gas car for three years. So it's hradly like what Brad's trying to do is a challenge, as you said.
-
"Abuse" jalopnik staff.
Ok. And here you are mentioning our "Be Awesome" mantra, and telling other users they're asses.
Pot, Kettle?
-
@derpwagon
I said you're acting like an ass, not that you were one.
But if the shoe fits...
