13 Years Ago Today

I married my wife. We had less than 10 guests, my wife’s dress was from the $100 rack at David’s bridal and mine was a rental. Ice cream cake with clown cones.

To this date we still go every year and get a clown cone.

She is my best friend and I commend her for the patience she’s shows in my automotive ADD, the fact that I always have a project of some sort going on, and most importantly with our foster/adoption experiences.

Her favorite movie is Dumb & Dumber and I love her for it. 13 years sounds like a long time yet feels so short. I hope everyone of you have or will have someone like this in your life. I feel lucky.

@snakesm13 Congrats wedding twin! We celebrated our 13th on July 25th and my wife’s dress also came from the discount rack. No clown cones, though. We barely got any cake other than the bite for pictures. My SIL was supposed to save us some and she failed miserably in her duties.

@pos_camaro nice! Was your honeymoon also puppy training class for your wolf-hybrid at petsmart the next evening? Because that would be oddly specific.

@snakesm13 Not quite. We stayed a couple of nights in a nice hotel here in town, but our real honeymoon was in September when we went to Maui. My wife isn’t exactly afraid of dogs but she isn’t really comfortable around them either which means I have to live vicariously through others.

@pos_camaro When we did finally go on a honeymoon 9 years later, we went to Maui, then Kauai to Oahu and finished on the big island over 2 weeks. It was amazing and I would move there in a heartbeat if it made sense.

@snakesm13 We’ve been back to Maui a number of times and went to Kauai just before COVID and to the Big Island this past March. We keep trying to figure out how to get there permanently but it’s going to have to wait.

It doesn't always get easier after the first 13, but I think it's worth it. We've almost made 40 together now, still have to work things out sometimes.

Thanks! At the time it felt like nothing, just kinda ice cream cake sounds good, these clowns would be funny. Got them decorated in our likeness. Now looking back I’m glad we did it’s a very personal untraditional tradition. Our 4 year old is going to be very disappointed when she goes to weddings to find out there is usually no ice cream.

Congrats friend! That's the way to do it...big 'dos' are great, but not my thing...hopefully when I find somebody I can settle down with, it will be something as simple and humble, but beautiful regardless, like this!

@rallydarkstrike I recommend a small shindig. I was a best man and my wife was a bridesmaid in the wedding of our best friends. We spent more on that wedding than ours!
