Someone put 414k on a Mitsubishi Mirage
-
They are long time Mitsubishi customers, and their Mirage was purple.
Other than regular routine maintenance, the Mirage only needed a starter and wheel bearings. They replaced it with another Mirage.
-
#FakeNews - just a Mirage.
-
Good color for it anyway.
-
I actually like them, I ended up going for a used-er mazda2 but lightly used ones can be found well under 10k all day long, it's a fine runabout though, or in a couple years we can do an all-oppo spec mirage series.
-
I think that color's called passion fruit.
This is the state of modern cars. Basic examples run forever with frequent use and basic maintenance. Fancy new gadgets break down. Doors, motor, wheels are all so refined, commoditized and optimized that they have extreme longevity. But the basics don't sell anymore. Nobody wants steak, unless it's got sizzle. -
We stan a king

Someone's a masochist. Or if you've never driven nicer cars, you'll be happy with the Mirage. I DD'd a base 94 Caravan, base 98 Forester and since I never knew what I was missing, I was happy. I was happy to have heat. Never had A/C though.

I try to get base models with minimal options for that reason.
-
Oh, that's White Bear Mitsu. My brother-in-law works there in the service department. He and my sister love their Outlanders.
-
It's one of the few vehicles for sale that weighs less than 2,000 lbs. It's also got variable valve timing (so pretty much V-TEC).
I'd love to hoist the engine out of one and throw it in a Locost.

But why give up at 414k? 500k is just around the corner. It’s such a weird milestone to draw the line.
I’m just imagining the conversation. In my head, their names are Barb and Jerry.
“Barb! Look! We’re getting close! Should hit 500k before Q2 2021!”
“Jerry. I’m done. I’m getting out of this fucking car. I can’t take it anymore.”
“Alright. We’re bout 600 miles from home. We’ll put her up for sale next weekend”
“No Jerry. I mean now. Now! NOW!!! Stop the car! Stop the GODDAMN car!”
“Barb?”
-
@baconsandwich Okay I had to check. Under 2k pounds just seemed crazy. According to Mitsubishi's site, 2029lbs is the lightest one (base, manual). Which is still crazy.

from the article, it sounds like the dealer offered to buy it off of them when they brought it in for service, based on the current mileage. since it sounds like they're going to use it for marketing (smart), they probably made them a pretty attractive offer.

There's something admirable about cheap little cans that just need routine maintenance.
I know most of us would rather get something used for the same money as a new Mirage but I'd say that if someone got 414k miles out of it, they got their money's worth.
-
At least it's not a G4. I'd also be curious as to the way it was optioned. Probably an automatic but I'm also unusually curious about whether it has windy windows.
That particular color is quite good in person but I prefer their dark orange. I think the most surprising thing is that there are two different lifetime Mitsubishi customers.
-
@dogisbadob Honestly, with how good a service it gave, I'd probably want the same thing again, too.
The Mirage gets a lot of hate that's unjustified, in my opinion. Its a small, light, simple economy car that provides practical transportation at an affordable price. Loads of people taking out 7 or 8 year loans on luxury pickups or giant SUVs, and then struggling with the payments, would really be better off with one of those instead.

That's very true in isolation. It suffers in comparison with it's peers.
-
@vincentmalamute There's increasingly little competition, though, and the MSRP on the Mirage is basically just a suggestion. There's currently over 100 new Mirages on AutoTrader listed at under $12,000, and some under $10,000. Now, I know, some of that is dealers playing games with rebates hardly anyone qualifies for, but I doubt you're getting deals like that on a Yaris or Fit.
Maybe a Versa or Spark though, I guess those would be better alternatives, come to think of it.
-
yeah, I know the Fit is more expensive but quite a bit better.

I guess it had gone up in weight a bit since I last checked. Still. To put that in perspective, that's ~700 lbs lighter than my 2001 Civic.
-
@baconsandwich Oh for sure. Its 300 pounds lighter than my notably tiny and light miata.
-
@dogisbadob I am one of those strange people that like the Mirage...and also other basic cars! It and the Micra are in the running to replace my Accent if it ever comes to that!

Yeah, I'd totally buy one in a fun color and get a Webasto sunroof on it (Mitsubishi doesn't offer a factory sunroof for the Mirage)

too bad they don't offer pink anymore
-
@dogisbadob I wouldn't even care if I owned a pink one....I love the fact they were bold enough to actually offer...you know....COLORS.
