VOCES 8
-
I discovered this group yesterday when they turned up on my Spotify. This sort of thing may not be your cup of tea, but this group is absolutely fantastic, top to bottom. Style, phrasing, intonation, all of it. Amazing.
-
They did Elagr's Nimrod.
Which is the single most powerful piece, not in that it's associated with Rememberance Day, but the story of how it came to be for Elgar to compose it. It never fails to bring a tear to my eyes. -
@svend Absolutely stunning. Thank you.
-
It's my favourite piece ever.
From nine years ago
Three weeks ago from a social disctanced and Rememberance Day.
-
@svend I'm pretty sure you guys know how to do this sort of thing better than anybody else.
-
@ttyymmnn They nailed it. Bam.
-
@svend That was fabulous. Thank you.

It's extraordinary. Reminiscent of the King's Singers. I believe that there is something about the depth and breadth of the English choral tradition that makes them some of the best at this sort of thing. Makes me glad I grew up in the Episcopal Church.
-
We get plenty of practice
-
@ttyymmnn they do the Theme from Harry's Game, and it's amazing. Thanks for sharing!
-
@misterbuttercup And this is what makes Oppo so amazing. On a site ostensibly about cars, you can get comments and interaction on a post about choral music.
-
@ttyymmnn yes! Since signing up I've really enjoyed reading through the different posts and the sheer variety of posts. It's been pretty great!
-
@misterbuttercup Welcome! This is a pretty amazing community.
-
@svend Okay, I've watched that four or five times now. Simply extraordinary. That's a piece of music you can't play slow enough.
-
@ttyymmnn
It's such an amazing piece.
Elgar suffered with depression most of his life and the Enigma Variations were dedicated to friends who helped him through.
Even the back story of the piece is full of sorrow.
The fact it became the piece to remember so many who lost their lives is rather apt. -
@svend Is the Cenotaph akin to our Tomb of the Unknowns?
-
@ttyymmnn
No, the cenotaph is a war memorial.
The grave of the unknown soldier is in Westminster Abbey in London.As far as tombs go, they don't get more fancy.
"They buried him among the kings because he had done good toward god and toward his house".
-
I love that genre of high ethereal female voices used as an instrument. I like more of a melody and rhythm though, female vocal trance.
-
@ttyymmnn glad to be here! ...I may have been frequenting the site ever hour since I signed up, but it does seem like a great community!
-
@ttyymmnn Very cool. I'll be listening to this for a while now.
-
@chariotoflove Did you listen to the Elgar that Svend posted in this thread? It’s sublime. He posted both the VOCES8 and two brass bands from Remembrance Day.
