SS glamour shots - after paint correction and ceramic coat
-
The previous owner had somehow put tons of light scratches on the clear, despite only driving the car 1300 miles. So nice to get her “perfect”, if only for a while. No garage queens at my house…
-
@davesaddiction Looks great. And nice shop too!
-
@davesaddiction Nice! Any additional thoughts on partially wrapping the wheels for a different look?
-
@davesaddiction Looks amazing (as usual)
-
@davesaddiction You did that yourself? How tough was it to apply the ceramic?
-
@davesaddiction
I dont like the stock wheels TBH...do you like em? -
@davesaddiction oooo we that looks great!
-
@davesaddiction Looks like there's plenty of room to squeeze an E90 M3 in there with the SS
-
@davesaddiction The shots inside the garage really show off the work! Awesome!
-
@davesaddiction One of the nicest SSs around. I absolutely love this car.
Maybe he would put stuff on top of it while it sat in the garage?
-
Thanks! Love 'em both.
Probably just another hare-brained idea that I'll never follow through on. I do think a set of CTS-V wheels are in my future at some point, though...
Thanks!
No, I didn't. Found I guy through the local G8/SS group who did it for a pretty reasonable price.
Yeah, same. Don't hate 'em, but don't love 'em. See above reply to HR.
Now to keep it looking this good!
Haha - I still have first right of refusal if my brother ever sells my old one.
@KingT
Yeah, unfortunately it was overcast yesterday, so the outside pics don't give the full effect.
Meee tooo.
He had a cover for it - maybe putting it on and taking it off? Or he just overwashed it, and dried it with some crappy towel? Considering how anal he was with the car, it was kind of surprising.
-
@davesaddiction Very nice!
-
Just a follow-up on the wheels:
If I focus on the five outer shapes instead of looking at the wheels like a normal 5-spoke, I like them a lot better.
But my brain just naturally sees the 5 spokes and goes there...
Like them better from an angle than straight on.
Maybe I could get a paint shop to darken (not black) this inner area to make the outer shapes more pronounced:
-
@davesaddiction That looks really good. I need to detail the GX. I've gone back and forth on getting dings/etc repaired, and just living with the imperfections. I'll probably just do some light correction at home and call it a day.
-
I'm really happy with it.
I'd probably live with the imperfections of the GX. Honestly, my truck stays pretty dirty, just due to lack of time to commit to it. Before I ended up on Cement, I was thinking Blazing Blue. In hindsight, I'm so glad I didn't get that color because I'd always be frustrated that it wasn't perfectly clean. Cement might actually look better when it's dirty. LOL
-
@davesaddiction That's one difference between the 4Runner and GX460. The 4Runner looked dirty unless it was just washed. Typical of dark cars. The GX, I've washed it twice (mainly because I got a new pressure washer/foam cannon to play with)...but it hasn't been touched in at least three weeks and still looks clean, although it's quite dirty. I now understand the appeal of gray cars.
-
@davesaddiction WOW... I just spent a little bit of time doin this exact thing... (seperate from seeing your post.)
Poor shop job I know but I wanted to see the two different wheels on the same picture....
It almost makes it MORE 5 spoke. Strange but I like it. -
How much was the paint correction and ceramic coat? I've been thinking I ought to have the same done to my C6... it's getting a bit old at nearly 70k miles and there's more than a few scratches I'd like to be rid of.

If you need a lot of correction, expect to pay close to a grand for a high solids 2/3 year coating job.

Great minds... ha!
If I went this route, I'd have them darker the lug nuts, too.
So, the detailer we usually use quoted me $1500 for a partial job, but I found this guy (from the local G8/SS group) who did it (including all the glass and wheels) for $500. Super happy with it.
He used a 2 year (there was a little miscommunication - I actually wanted to pay $100 more than I did for a 7 year).
-
@davesaddiction I like the Apex wheels as well...

Take those "years" with a grain of salt. In my Testing, the Light ceramics that say 6 months usually go 1 year to 18 months, with proper care. Most of those long term coatings require regular maintenance visits with decon and top up products being use to extend their life. I had a coating on the hood (well, I had 6 going, but only 2 were still performing), that was a multi year high solids coating that was a year in and still working great, but without top ups and decon, it would probably only go 2 years tops.
-
@davesaddiction Not knocking your own photos, but you ought to think about contacting a local photographer to get some really nice shots now that the car is looking its best.
-
Yes, absolutely! And Ace Alloy AFF02s...
Good to know. This car will always be parked inside, and won't see much rain (my nice day daily - there are lots of nice days here, even in the winter), so I expect it to hold up well.
What Si02 cleaner or "booster" spray do you use?
That's a good idea. Or I could actually just bust out my own nice camera & lenses and find a great spot. Would love some "rollers" though...

I have.... a lot of them.
What brand made your coating? Some have different characteristics depending on what's most important to you. There is also some paste ceramic products now that also function as toppers, but with a bit more longevity (Gyeon Q2 Wax). You can also use the spray and rinse top up products like Gyeon Wet Coat or Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax, these allow you to top it during your wash before you dry.
