Pretty sure it was Shilling, I made fun of him for posting an article about changing his air filter
https://jalopnik.com/i-finally-changed-the-cabin-air-filter-in-my-car-and-it-1845783933
Telling a site full of car enthusiasts that you should change a cabin filter once in a while is just for quota, right? I guess I clicked so they got whatever ad-blocked revenue I can provide.
I didn't give him any shit for 9 months of his terrible Pandemic "morning shifts", I should get a pass.

It's funny that guy writes for a car blog.

Jalopnik writers (our current Oppo writers excluded) are for the most part, the most thin-skinned, space wasting oxygen thieves on the internet.
I got greyed years ago for calling out an article that was praising horrifically dangerous driving, and never got back out. They also later edited the article to add a lip-service disclaimer about how reckless driving = bad.
I don't really traffic the site anymore. I just don't care. I don't have the time or the willingness to be preached at by a bunch of holier-than-thou hypocrites screeching CARS BAD drivel while working for a site where 'Drive Free or Die' used to mean something. As far as I'm concerned, Jalopnik is just another political echo chamber these days. And don't even get me started on the comment section.

Between this and the low beams, I'm curious if he's EVER changed the oil on that Fit.

I feel like Jalopnik has changed after many of its writers jumped to other publications. I still read their article as I subscribed to their RSS feed, and to try seeing through another perspective, but it's not the same anymore.
The most interesting articles to read for me are David Tracy's wrenching adventures and whatever wacky articles Jason Torchinsky writes for Torchlopnik segment.

Torch's 'schtick' got old years ago.
-
@derpwagon I'm still a fan, his style harkens back to the early, Murilee Martin days of Jalopnik, though, I think he may be exaggerating his act recently, maybe to intentionally counter the tone being taken by the rest of the staff.
-
@derpwagon I mean, Torch could be a long term viable character if he had more creative collaboration with other writers.
-
A tired old worn-out schtick bounced off of wet blankets. Recipe for success.
-
I have always been a fairly staunch defender of Jalopnik staff, but some of the recent staff seem to have totally lost the plot regarding cars.
-
I got it for correcting the wikipedia-gleaned "knowledge" of a certain arrogant bearded dork a few too many times. Oh well, no loss, especially these days lol. What a shitshow.
-
There used to be a lot of love there for the "Attainable, yet special" cars out in the world. Now, there seems to be a lot more focus on the other ends of the enthusiast spectrum. So many articles are either reviews of "Amazing car is amazingly Expensive!", or the "Look what I can do with this junk!" story.
I used to be a FP regular and occasional Oppo, but now I'm here and haven't had the urge to post on the Jalopnik FP in quite a while.
-
Torch is being taken out of context and maligned for a situation out of his control. Put that man right back into the thick of it with proper car journalists and he'd be drinking washer fluid when the free booze ran out with the best of them.

@Zaphod-s-Heart-of-Gold I got greyed for making an anal joke. Before my downfall, I did win COTD once.
-
Pro Tip:
Kinja Black Ops
Find burners and accounts in the grey to say what you think in the bad take articles.
They're sacrificial pawns to your king.
Same effectiveness, little to no risk. -
@zaphod-s-heart-of-gold It's okay, I got greyed for something Torch thought was an unfunny joke in an email. He even wrote an article about it. I guess context didn't matter, or he was having a bad day..
Then I got ungreyed a couple days later. Then got greyed again a few months later because...well, I don't know why, as I hadn't posted much in awhile. Then ungreyed once more. And now, I've logged out of Kinja completely. While I will occasionally skim the website, I haven't feel even the slightest desire to log back in and post in any comment sections.
I think the final tally of sites I had been greyed at were Jezebel (because I never tried to contribute), Kotaku (because I was very rarely active there), and Gizmodo (because I asked a writer what a barely coherent and exhaustingly stupid article about Tom Hanks' David S. Pumpkins SNL character had to do with emerging technology or science).
