When you cannot add lightness, add responsiveness (or power).

While performing maintenance on the Horse with no Name, I decided to implement a mod I'd had on my mind for some time... improve the throttle pedal feel.

As stock there is 3/4" (~18mm) of slack in the throttle cable before pedal movement translates to throttle plate movement, which leads to significant slop when pressing the pedal, as well as an overall lower pedal position, far out of line with the brake pedal (and eventually the clutch pedal too)

To remediate this, I fashioned a spacer out of tiny high-density tubing, reinforced with zip-ties to assure no deformation or escape via the slot I cut into it to fit over the cable.

Resulting in a much nicer pedal position, and a more responsive feel to the car as pedal motion immediately translates into airflow changes on the engine side.

Next time I talk about the Mach1, I am hopefully going to have a worthwhile update on the installation of the parts pile I've had since the beginning of the year.

@orneryduck That was the first mod I did to my Mach 1. There was far too much distance between the brake pedal and the throttle pedal to heel-toe without it.

I often wish I didn't sell that car.

This is an issue I have on my Accent...the throttle is WAYYYY far forward from the brake and clutch.

@farscythe not to mention adding lightness via drilling holes in the pedal arms

@samv8 That just reminds me how amazingly strong brake pedal arms are. When I think of how many times I've slammed on the brakes extremely hard, I realize what that pedal has to deal with. I can't imagine how much force is put on the brake pedal arm when Arnold Schwarzenegger has a panic stop.

@orneryduck I can't believe I haven't done this to my '95 yet! It's such a popular mod, yet somehow I keep forgetting about it. But first, I've got a lot of other wrenching to do at the moment which I'll post about later. Gonna add this to my list though!
