4 inches ground clearance vs. 8 inches of snow
-
I've been waiting 40 years for an answer to my knee problem, so I wasn't going to let a little bit of winter get in the way. Woke up to six inches of heavy snow over slush; the snowblower couldn't handle it, but each shovelful only weighs 40 pounds, so let's put those Blizzaks to the test (actually they've been tested many times and they fucking rule).
By the time I left, the snow had piled up to 8 inches.
Got high-centered a couple times backing out of the driveway and had to shovel. The neighborhood roads weren't much better, but the main roads had been plowed and salted a couple hours before, so it was just winter driving. Made it to my appointment on time.
When I got back, I could only make it halfway up the driveway, but it's off the street.
Lots of confused CUV drivers encountered. They couldn't figure out why I was passing them. Only saw two cars upside down in the ditch.

@Old Busted Hotness is that an SRT8?
-
Should trade it in for an AWD widebody and then really show up the FWD CUV drivers.
That snow is my nightmare.
-
Having my Civic Si stranded in a snow pile like that (high centered) was the final straw for me. Bought my LJ that next summer. Never have to shovel my driveway again!

Georgia-like typing detected.

@old-busted-hotness That's awesome!
My truck is 2wd, but I run snow tires. I've got some General Altimax Arctics right now, which are fine, but next time I'm going back to Blizzaks.

@aremmes Georgia-like driving was detected as well.
Does my keyboard ice before the road?
Let me tell you how I know that that picture was taken before the pandemic.
-
@aremmes How?
Well, glad it wasn't taken now. An inch of snow once a year is nice but an inch of ice is awful. Because it really should have been called icepocalypse. I had to walk for an hour in traffic just to get home.

They're not practicing social distancing, of course!

@Old-Busted-Hotness that photo looks f'n badass! Even though I'm not sure I would own one myself, other people's Challengers make me very happy.

Laughs in all terrain mountain snowflake severe winter service tires with 4 wheel drive and locking diffs and way more ground clearance

@derpwagon
yeah, yeah... if only 4runners didn't cost so much
Maybe I should lift the wagon for laughs and snow/dirt funs. -
Sell VW, get Xterra. Just as capable as a 4 runner, half the wallet fucking.
-
@derpwagon But Nissan... then again, manual 4x4 trucklet! I probably wouldn't use it enough to justify it tbh, though. Most of the snow fun I have is on roads.
-
I never went offroading till I had a truck either.
-
@derpwagon shoot, good point. Well, I'll look into it once I high center the car on a pile of snow XD
-
Or just buy a cheap truck as an offroad beater for adventures @spacekraken
-
@derpwagon Have I told you I really want to pick up an old camper trailer (airstream ooh shiny) and build it out as a road trip rig? An old taco or F150 would be a good pair for that, or even the xterra I bet.
-
@spacekraken you think toyotas are expensive and you want an airstream? Buddy.
-
@derpwagon Like $5k used and worn out here? I didn't say I wanted a nice one, just a shell to slowly build out lol. But would probably settle for anything that doesn't leak water in the rain and rolls okay for a budget camper.

Nope. The rental-car spec SXT is awesome enough for me. I can't imagine the frustration of having 485 HP on tap and being stuck behind a bunch of Korean CUVs, which is how we drive here when it's not snowing, and 305 HP is more than enough when there's snow on the roads.
-
Ground clearance? I don't need no stinkin' ground clearance!
AWD and winter tires FTW!
