Porsche 911 GT1 96 Development

Roof scoops for everyone!
about the development of the '96 911 GT1, complete with lots of bare carbon/Kevlar, exhausts farting flames, and so many German mustaches.
Here's a super boring videoAnd here's a nice response video
about the development of the CLK GTR, featuring Top-Gun-guitar/synth/saxophone soundtrack, and a lunch break timelapse."Seiht gut aus!"
This has been your morning mid-90s GT1 distraction. Quoting the CLK vid: "Sovereign, full of power, and yet fleet of foot."
One bright spot for 2021? The GT1 96 will be 25 years old.
...fuck

I can't get enough of the CLK-GTR. It is my unicorn in every single possible future, because even if I became a billionaire tomorrow, I physically cannot drive it because it's so tiny inside.
-
@frinesi2 Same with me and the GT40.
-
@phenotyp it's a hard life to live. I'll have to take solace in the fact that the Enzo fits me like a glove.
-
@frinesi2 I've only ever sat in one moving Ferrari, and a Ford GT would be my kinda real dream car. Or an FD, which I last sat in in 2006.
The GT40 was... easy to see why they made the Gurney Bubble. At 6' 1", I was WAY too tall to consider driving it. Couldn't turn the wheel, couldn't turn my head. -
@phenotyp Yeah, at 5'9", I had to bend my head to one side to clear the roof, still couldn't see through the top of the windshield, both feet were jammed over all three pedals, my thighs were on the wheel, and my knees almost blocked the gauges. I felt like I was in a Little Tikes car.
Never been in a GT40 but I'd imagine the same. Homologation race cars are built for some seriously smol folks.
-
It's funny, how big all those little cars seem.
-
With that last line, you just made me feel real old...
Mid to late '90s were a glorious time for all sorts of different forms of auto racing. Hell, even into the mid 2000s for sports cars and F1.
