Almost a Code Red Situation

But then I found another can of Brakleen. Crisis averted.
-
@pos_camaro Oooh, the toxic stuff with Chlorine. Mmmmmm
-
@pos_camaro brakleen bless
-
@racinbob Nothing but the good stuff!
-
@pos_camaro Oh the good stuff!
Funny relevant story. My can of brake clean caught on fire today. There I was filling it from the big ol' 55gal and * FOOF * My hand, bottle, refiller station and pig mat was on fire. That be sum shit you don't need 15 mins to quitting time.
I made sure the ground strap was a bit better purchased on the drum after that. Holy shit.

@thebarber Well that makes for an overly interesting end of the day!
-
@thebarber I would stick to the "organic" stuff. Interesting reading about Parkinson's and the Chlorinated solvents. Granted the organic might give you cancer but I would consider that easier to cure......
-
@thebarber So you don't need to trim your eyebrows for a while?
-
@thebarber Funny relevant story? Sounds more like a Code Brown.

Same. Though I doubt the "organic" stuff is anything you'd want to bathe in.

@racinbob Unfortunately I don't really have a choice of what I get to use. The new bulk Honda stuff isn't as bad as the old stuff we had. You could really feel that stuff burn your lungs and brain cells. It sure worked better though...
Current formula. http://docs.crcindustries.com/MSDS/9976.pdf

@racinbob Ha! Not quite that bad as I was far away from the initial flare (leaning across another barrel to reach the refiller). Still pretty scary thinking back on it. I got the can out, got the refiller out of the fire as I didn't want the lines to go up, and only had to deal with the absorption mat being stubborn to put out as it melts vs burns. Oh, and this was in our oil room. So there's literally a dozen 55 gal barrels of different petrochemicals along with the big bulk tanks and oil filter drums. Our vent fan also isn't working either so you can just feel the oil vapor in the room. I found the one sq foot of non oil soaked floor to stomp the mat out. I was probably a half second from just running with it out of the room lol. I'm glad I was wearing my heavy jacket and general purpose gloves or I'd probably be hairless on one arm for a while.
Todays drive back home I recalled reading a news story a few years back of a tech that lost his life in a similar situation. Brake clean ignited and caused a secondary vapor cloud explosion from the oil vapor in the air.
I will probably give my boss a heads up about access to the extinguisher being blocked and the non functioning fan tomorrow.
