Quirkiest Car Ever?
-
What a weird little car. Being a fan of Alfa Romeo, I have thought about importing a SZ or RZ. Thank god I didn’t after having watched this review. However, it was very entertaining to watch just because these design choices were just so bizarre.
-
@napoli if by quirkiest you mean "most bizarre design choices" my vote would have to be the Fiat Multipla..
I can see how they got there, I just can't believe they stopped there..
-
Fiat's never been afraid of quirky.
The Ritmo/Strada was so quirky, the Car & Driver review was titled "Torch the Sucker!" Must have been too quirky. -
@napoli doug: "super quirky roof opening! Zomg!"
Me: : "its not that quirky, except the lack of trunk and styling"
My vote is still the vector w8. -
I think the quirkiest is the Hoffman
-
@manwich I’ve never even seen the Hoffman before. Every time I see a three wheeled vehicle I get upset that VW never released this.
-
VW should have also sold the XL1 to who ever wanted it. But instead they limited production to just 250 units

@Napoli This is now a quirky car thread.
@siennaman I raise your Multipla design choice and present the Renault Project 500.
-
@taylor-martin I think the multipla gets major bonus points for being a pretty successful production car.
-
@lanciere Very true.
-
@manwich this is my first time hearing about the XL1. €110,000 for a 68 hp car? I don’t know. Cool idea but it seems like horrible execution. Any idea what they are worth now?

I wouldn't say these were poorly executed. I'd say they are a very interesting exercise in getting maximum fuel economy using tech from that time (without going full BEV).
Because of their rarity and being an early diesel-electric hybrid, they are still generally worth over 100,000 Euros... if you can find one.
I found these two articles of ones that were on sale in the past... both sold for over that.

If I was a car collector, had money and wanted one of these, I would expect to pay at least 100,000 Euros... and I would totally love to experience one of these.
-
@napoli
Same kind of money.... -
@napoli I would nominate anything built by Tatra or '50s-'80s hydropneumatic Citroens as the quirkiest cars ever built, though the FIAT Multipla is well up there, as is the Zundapp Janus.
