Battlefield 6

I'm not much of a gamer. In the last few years my most played video games would probably all be phone gaming to pass the time. But I've always been enamored by the Battlefield series and played the heck out of Bad Company 2 in 2009. Plus probably even more important have been the ludicrous YouTube videos of the shenanigans that go down in the game.
The original that inspired one of the clips in the new trailer:
Plus many more:
I started to forget during the trailer if I was watching the Battlefield 6 trailer or F9. I think a crossover of the two would be perfect for maximum fun.

@wrong-wheel-drive yeah I had their first go around at future battlefield. Was just a camp fest. No bueno. I started with 1942 and that was fabulous. But as time went on I realized the time and effort to be decent at it and enjoy it went nowhere as the servers disappeared when the next version came out and one had to start over. Again and again. Not for me now.

@grindintosecond In college, a friend and I just played a ton of 1942 co-op against bots to keep occupied while our other friends played Magic. Didn't have much tolerance for playing with randoms then, and I have less now.
I've stopped playing Battlefield entirely now, though I did grab Battlefield 4 yesterday since it's currently free with Amazon Prime.

I haven't played Battlefield since the demo for Battlefield 2. It was pretty fun.
It's hard to justify playing games when I've got so much to do around the house. It seems like home ownership, you get one thing off your to-do list, and 3 more pop up. This week I'm supposed to be stripping paint off the deck and front steps in preparation for painting...
It's kind of funny - I used to be hardcore into learning about graphics programming. These days... it all looks pretty close to the same to me. It's like the law of diminishing returns. Yes, we have graphics cards with 20x the power of only a few years ago... but the increase in visuals has been... minimal.
-
@baconsandwich I took a bunch of graphics classes in college and then proceeded to never use any of it. And there is definitely diminishing returns. We get fancier lighting and higher resolutions, but it's ever harder to improve on what we have. Of course one bottle neck is that having artists create ultra high poly models and ultra high resolution textures is expensive. It's not inconceivable that machine learning advancements could push that side of things forward as there still seems to be a lot of room for growth on the AI/ML front.
-
@facw You might find this quite interesting:
There's definitely lots of room for improvement using AI to generate content. I suspect that's where its' going to head, for a lot of it. -
@wrong-wheel-drive I had Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 and stopped playing both because, despite having a good internet connection, there were MANY times where I would kill somebody and then a second later have it say they killed me, despite my having killed them already....the netcode was horrible....
(For reference, I'm not new to shooters, I used to play Unreal Tournament 2004 with a two fairly well known gaming clans/guilds back in the early gaming days in tournaments...so I know when things aren't quite right :P)

@wrong-wheel-drive The have the design of the headsets all wrong!

@wrong-wheel-drive I've played every BF since 1942. I'd say 1942 w/ the forgotten hope mod or bad company 2 were my favorites. Battlefield 3 and 1943 were contenders as well. I really haven't loved anything since. I'd still take Battlefield over COD though, it just feels better.
-
I'm really not excited for this. I hate futuristic war games because it's like a crappier version of a space battle game..
-
@wrong-wheel-drive 100% with you on the Fast & Furious feels. I watched the trailer before I scrolled and was thinking the whole time that this is just the military videogame version of F&F. Then I scrolled down and felt 100% vindicated that you made the same connection.
I'm kind of bored with the over the top military action games. In the end, they leave you somewhat empty.

Bad company 2 was just so fun. Captured the essence of why battlefield is fun. I played a lot of COD Modern Warfare 2 at that time too and it was just nowhere near as fun. I'd go on COD because gotta earn them ranks. But then I'd play Battlefield to have fun with tanks and shit. How many games can you shoot a helicopter down with a tank round?Since then I'd given up on multiplayer games and I just find single player more fun and rewarding.

Haha glad I'm not alone in that thought. As soon as the music kicked in I knew it would be a fun ride through it all. Over the top shit like that is actually more fun to watch on YouTube than actually play. Especially with a non-annoying presenter.

@wrong-wheel-drive I enjoyed the series, but 4 was unplayable for 2 months till they fixed all the bugs, and One became so full of cheaters on pcwhen they started releasign all the map packs 6 months after launch.
