vaccination rates - red vs. blue states
-
So frustrating that this is still such a political issue for so many.
-
My level of surprise is very low.
-
What's with the no man's land around 65%? I was expecting roughly the shape shown but the gap in the middle is throwing me off.
-
@theturbochargedsquirrel It's a bimodal distribution, similar to party affiliation. If there were more true 'centrists', this would be much more gaussian. The fact that it's not points to vaccination indeed being a political issue.
-
Yeah, very weird, right?
-
Later bitches! I'm getting some sushi, hitting up C&C, going for drinks and planning a BBQ.Still wearing a mask though, as I hope to never catch a head cold again.
-
@davesaddiction Don’t let the AZ GOP see this. It’ll convince them their votes were stolen!
-
@tekamul What if a centrist is someone who voted for Biden, but doesn’t trust the pharmaceutical industry? Or a Trumper who got vaccinated despite the nonsense from the GQP (stealing that one from @fintail). I know a lot of both. As someone from a blue state in the “red section”, I see a lot more Ds politicizing vaccinations than I do Rs. I still probably won’t vote for an R ever again, but the die hard Ds are looking sillier to me every day, especially with their new found “enemy” (which has been around a lot longer than we have). I’m not looking forward to our next War on [insert distraction here].

@davesaddiction So funny seeing GA, AZ, NV as blue states. I hope they can keep it up, as we all know their brave patriotic legislators will do everything possible to suppress votes and gerrymander their way back to their messiah.
I suspect this chart correlates to other health issues as well.
-
@dipodomysdeserti 'Ds' around you could be politicizing vaccinations for different reasons, but at this point it's about saving lives and the economy. The federal gov't has already made it clear they are prioritizing lives over economy, and the question becomes, what means are justified by the goal?
Politicization? Prodding, goading, scolding, hyperbole? All essentially painless in the name of saving lives and stabilizing the economy.Faith or a lack thereof in an industry does not, or should not, have any intersection with political affiliation. Even referring to it as a collective industry is disingenuous. The push is coming from pharmaceutical companies, scientists, politicians, and a year's worth of actual data. The voices aren't wholly unified, but they are varying majorities.
People don't have to take the advice of others, but they do have to accept the consequences of their decisions. As an aside, I don't know which enemy you were referencing.
-
@dipodomysdeserti Yeah, even my uncle, who has always been a conspiracy theorist (although harmless, more of a "what are they hiding" no matter who is in office, rather than a "lizard people, Qanon, let's storm the seat of government" shitbag) and was a big Trumper in 16, took it all seriously and got vaccinated. On the other side of the family tree, there are some stuborn Trumpets who will likely never get jabbed, and they don't appear to be in the best of health to start with. Weird how that works.
People like this shameless crook should be treated as an "enemy" by anyone who actually has to work, but nope:

@davesaddiction Color me shocked. Actually surprised a few aren't a darker color.
-
@tekamul Welcome to America, where we’ve been prioritizing the economy over lives since 1776! We even still enslave people for economic...I mean punitive... reasons.
I think Pfizer, J&J, Moderna et. al. are very much apart of the pharmaceutical industry. That’s why I can get dick pills, or a vaccine, from the same company. And I’m curious how we have years worth of data for vaccines that haven’t even been around a year. We definitely had decades worth of data that there was asbestos in baby powder, but J&J fought tooth and nail to ignore scientific data about that. Plenty of other examples of these companies ignoring data in order to make a buck (priorities...).
Rural communities are being hit pretty hard by the opioid epidemic, in which pharmaceutical companies and healthcare providers played a large role. There has also been a history of malfeasance in regards to unethical research done on minority communities for medical purposes, so it’s no surprise that patterns have developed in regards to who trusts the medical industry.
I’ve said this before, but we ignore a plethora of public health concerns because they’re economically beneficial, and they’re a whole lot harder to treat than covid.
-
@davesaddiction Looks pretty bad across the board.
-
@fintail To be fair to your unhealthy relatives, vaccines aren’t generally tested out on people who are already sick. Not that that’s what they’re really concerned about.
-
@dipodomysdeserti said in vaccination rates - red vs. blue states:
Welcome to America, where we’ve been prioritizing the economy over lives since 1776!
Did George III write this
-
@dipodomysdeserti lol yeah that's not their issue. And when you tell them 45 got vaxxed, crickets.
-
It's going to be something to see the Sackler clan walk away scot-free.
-
@fintail There are quite a few MDs out there who should be in prison as well.
