Power just went off

11.40pm and the whole street is dark as well
Oh joy
-
@pip-bip Thus begins The Purge.
-
@pip-bip at least you still have access to the internet one way or the other. No cell service indoors at home for me. So power goes out means I'm cutoff from the world. And even if it just shuts off for a second, modems take an obscene amount of time to reset.
-
I know that so many of us have cell phones that use data, but I'm always amused when people on our neighborhood group start posting that the power is out, or when I get an email from my ISP telling my the service is down. If I have no power and no internet, what good is telling me I have no power and no internet? It's fairly obvious.

@pip-bip
Time for bed! -
@wrong-wheel-drive Tell me about it. I finally got fed up last year and bought a UPS for my router & laptop just so I wouldn't get kicked out while WFH.
-
@bicyclebuck I am now

course it is, it's nighttime
-
@skyfire77 Me too. I actually have 3 - one for the modem, one for the router, and another to charge devices.
I also recommend testing yearly. I found out the hard way during the Texas freeze that one of my CyberPower UPS had a bad battery.
This will be mitigated in weeks when my generator install is complete (I'll post about it when it is done).

Keeps you from calling them to report that you have no power and no internet by letting you know they are aware of the problem.

@houstonrunner
Thanks for reminding me that I need to replace the battery on my UPS. What I really need to do is increase the battery size so it can power more than just the modem, router, and a PCs for 10 minutes. Fine, what I really need to do is buy a bigger UPS so I can keep the PCs powered up for a couple of hours. OK, Fine, what I really, really need to do is get a power wall or whole-house generator so my whole household can function normally during the next flood/hurricane/apocalypse.Let me just take a look at the budget.... Nevermind.

They don't answer the phone anyway.
-
@ttyymmnn Do you have a private energy company? I know Austin has (or had when I was there) a municipal provider, but you aren't actually in Austin right?
-
We buy from Austin Energy. We have an Austin address, but live outside the city limits in Travis County.

You would think that, but in at least some cases, you would be wrong.
Read this story:
