Another one jumps ship?

A P Collins is moving on to bigger and better things.
If you've followed me on Twitter, Instagram, or Jalopnik where I was a staff editor until recently ...

@frinesi2 When there are lifeboats, why go down with the ship?
-
He left a few weeks ago
-
Good dude. Hope he has great success moving forward.
-
@rallysanti Ah. I haven't been to Jalopnik since the schism.
-
@frinesi2 The Jalopnik way is so thoroughly ingrained he opens the article with a link a different article. I clicked that article and never went back to the original. Why do they insist on doing that? What is the upside to linking people AWAY from your article/publication?
That said, Andrew was probably the best writer left - too bad - that coupled with the fact that they don't even review cars on the site (seriously, what is with that goofy interview thing they are doing?) is enough for me to find interesting auto news elsewhere.
-
Jalopnik is starting to be Autoblog for me. Less and less visits. TheDrive is really picking up the slack and with Stef and now Andrew it's getting even better.
-
One of.
From the old guard it's down to Tracy, wacky Torch, Car buying with Tom, and NPoCP (no, I will never call it by it's new PC name, I was viewing when Rob was username graverobber and we had the Rob Ford Crackometer). Erin is usually okay too.
Weekend crew is okay even though it's mostly racing and usually pretty dead.
Rory and the new hires [Oppo Alum] are worth giving a shot.
With that said I haven't been to FP in a solid week now and my last comment was 9 days ago to thank Elisabeth for her weekend MotoGP coverage (even though she made quite a few errors).
-
@exage03040 Torch is not a good writer and his "wait until you see this wacky thing" schtick has worn thin. Tracy, who is a very nice guy, is a one trick pony. Raph? I don't know if he works there still. I don't think any of the people left can hold a candle to the engaging writing that Andrew puts out. And I will never understand the purpose of an interview style car review that doesn't review the car.
It doesn't matter anyway, that site is dead.
-
Raph? He wrote a piece so horrible this year they brought out shadow ban hammer the might of Mjölnir in the depths.

It seems to have become the new way of citing things in your article instead of bibliography or footnote. I usually open a new window to the link if I need to read it, but it takes discipline to stay on target and not get distracted. So, your point it well taken.
-
Tots and pears for FP.
-
@exage03040 They changed the title for NPoCP? I haven't regularly read Jalopnik in a few years now, so I had no idea.
-
@benn454 it's called "Nice Wheels or No Deal" or something lame like that.
-
-
@chariotoflove it just feels odd as a reader to have the very first line of an article you are reading direct you away from what you are reading. It's like they are afraid to paraphrase or quote another publication or source. It's lazy and makes reading the article difficult since really I have to read another article someplace else to understand the references in the article I am currently reading.

Yeah, maybe not lead with that before you have captured the reader.
-
@frinesi2 Yeah, he left a month or two ago. It was right before Jalopnik hired a few more people. The reason I mention that, is the traditional goodbye-roast article there were FAR more former staffers on it than current ones.

Yes, they seem like good people but when their writing starts to make me think "I can do this", that's a problem.
-
Before you know it, graverobber will be EIC soon
@Exage03040 glad I'm not the only one who still calls him graverobber
-
@frinesi2 Nice Price or No Dice
-
@texturedsoyprotein that's it.

Hahaha, expecting discipline from readers on the internet. That's a good one.
