Two Wheels Sad

Very scary what happened to this rider. I always get anxious when going over bridges and try to be in the middle of the bridge as much as possible because I don't want to go over like this guy did.
-
That is sad. The way I'm reading this, he didn't even make it onto the bridge. He slid off an on-ramp.
Be careful out there folks.
-
Yeah, that's not good.
Looks like Boston was near freezing. I'd hazard this is probably the spot, it's right on the water and subject to freezing. As I said I won't ride below 45 when it's day and dry, let alone at night around freezing.

@krustywantout We don’t have any water under our bridges, but we did have a guy high side off a freeway overpass a few years ago.
-
Dang. I lived on an island for three years and had to cross a metal drawbridge if I wanted to leave. It was ok in the truck, but was super sketchy on my motorcycle. I found the best thing to do was put my weight on the pegs and let the bike squiggle around under me. If you tried to force it to hold a line, things would get really weird.

@dipodomysdeserti Nightmare fuel!

I can confirm that the winds in this area are enough to send a motorcycle off. Decades ago, while crossing the Braga Bridge that runs parallel to the south of this particular Veterans Memorial bridge, I was blown from the left lane all the way over to the right shoulder. I was able to come to a stop on the very narrow shoulder, after being forced across 3 lanes of traffic, narrowly avoiding being struck by passing vehicles. I have never experienced this much side wind force on a motorcycle before or since.

@onlytwowheels Code Brown Level Defcon 11!

Ramps and traffic circles are some of the worst places for 2-wheelers in my opinion and where I have seen more bikes dropped and riding gear put to the test. There’s a spot that has a traffic circle at the end of the exit ramp from a 3 lane interstate. It’s claimed a few bikes.
-
@krustywantout Very much a code brown moment. Once I got the nerve to get rolling again, I kept the speed down to give myself time to stop as quick as possible even though I couldn't wait to get off that damn bridge. Been on that bridge many times before and since, and never once have I encountered such terrible winds.
