Thanksgiving Mood

Staying in town for the holidays since Cleveland (home) and Chicago (family) are both in a soft lockdown. Missus and I are whipping up some beer can cornish hens with all the sides we like. Will send pics when appropriate.
Half of the office is on vacation all week, and most of the vendors I need to reach out to are also closed for the week, so my goal is to look busy through Wednesday without drawing any attention. Monday went well, two more days to go.

I think this is the general mood until New Years.
-
I completely misread the title - I thought it said Thanksgiving WOOD.
I need more coffee. -
@i86hotdogs My girlfriend and I canceled it all too. She is a nurse and has been ruinning a flu clinic at an army base so she has been in contact with about 14,000 people in the last couple weeks. Our plans of outdoor dining with the folks was pushed aside by a possible infected coworker of hers. She said she would rather her first Thanksgiving with me wasn't the one where she kills my parents, so we are going it alone. Which is what we all should have planned in the first place.
Cornish hens sound like a good call! Turkey is not very good anyways - we are having steaks.

Mmmm...i really need to make some beer can chicken again. They are soo good. Our family is all local, but we aren't getting together this year. My wife still bought enough food to feed the whole extended family though, so I believe I will be having Thanksgiving dinner for the next month or so.
-
I'm headed to a state park cabin for the holiday. I suspect my Thanksgiving dinner will be some combination of mac & cheese and eggs & bacon, but TBD.

You just haven't had properly made turkey then. It needs to be slathered in butter and cooked on low for like 12 hours.
-
@sovande Probably a good idea. Between the travel, and the fact any immediate family gathering is a minimum of 25 people, just not a great idea. Cases have spiked in both respective counties.
-
@mastermario It's our first time trying the cornish hen, but beer chicken is delicious. Our first idea was to supply our Thanksgiving meal from Boston Market, but we decided to cook a little bit.
-
@mastermario My mother and my grandmother before her is a pretty excellent cook. I just don't like turkey. The consistency is not great and the flavor is not great either.
-
@i86hotdogs Oh man! Cornish hens! I haven't had those in forever!
-
@i86hotdogs I am fortunate enough to see my folks regularly since they live about a mile and a half from me. The rest of the extended family that normally comes had already canceled and we canceled family Christmas too. I've been impressed with my extended family. An email was sent that basically said "See you next year" and nobody complained which is not par for the course.

@haveacarortwoorthree it's hard to go wrong with bacon.

That's kinda is what ran through my mind. I thought "THIS will be an interesting story"
I'm still not sure if I'm relieved or disappointed.................... -

Even better - deep fried.

Taking off next week, so finishing design iterations and checking calcs all day. Worry about turkey day after tomorrow morning (1/2 day) lol.

@i86hotdogs This Thanksgiving, I'll spend the entire weekend moving stuff out of my mom's old house to her new house across the street and down 3 houses. She actively avoided almost all packing or going through any of the stuff, and it's all landing on my shoulders. We're within 2 months of her officially giving up the keys to the old house, and I have to find time to drive 200 miles at least two more times this calendar year (besides this week) and work for a 3-day weekend to get her out of her house. Starting tonight.
This year has been the most stressful of my life and I hate it.

@i86hotdogs
We have early release tomorrow. I still have plenty to do, but it’s hard to not plan stuff like the cooking instead. The new guy is working out great, and I am struggling to train him while getting my own work done. That’s helping keep me honest. -

This is similar to my plan for the weekend too!

I’ve told my family my allergies are acting up, which is true. I don’t need to be sneezing all over the place.
