My kid developed a sore throat and cough yesterday. Went out and got a rapid test which still has a 24hr-1 week waiting period. Still better than the four weeks I waited over the summer. No fever. Decent timing as I was only teaching two days this week anyways. Now I'm back online probably until winter break. My kid was been home from school for the last two weeks, so whatever she got was from a family member. My wife and I have both been teaching in person, and have had to play musical chairs with friends and family for childcare. So instead of having them in one place (school), we have to have them all over depending on who's available. I also have midterms and term papers do this week, Fuck me.

This time last year I was hanging out in Ballymoney, having a pint of Guinness at the Joey Dunlop's Bar. I'd show you a photo, but the assholes at Apple decided to make that a pain in the ass.

Edit: Ballymoney, Norn Iron, motorcycle Mecca.

@dipodomysdeserti Did your family get the flu shot? Hope the test comes back negative. I couldn't imagine the stress you must be going through. The semester is almost over so hang in there. Stay safe!

One of the things thats been interesting in pooring over the COVID data is how its spreading in this phase. its mostly happening in social settings, and homes. Business are, for the most part, safe and school are...at least IN school...safe. The trouble with school is that people hang out, outside of school and take it home to spread the love.

Thanksgiving is going to be rough on the system.

I'm out of school, in fact, my finance professor got REALLY sick with COVID and canceled my last class and moved it further into december. This is a bummer since it means im in class later than normal, but its AWESOME because the last module is going to be 100% EC, so I have no excuse not to get an A in this class, which is good because I hate it. I hope he's doing better, he didn't sound great last checkup. Thats the real scare.

@krustywantout No flu shot. Seems more like strep or a cold to me. Pretty sure she picked it up from my niece (who did get a flu shot). I’m not stressed at all about her. No fever, breathing fine, just normal sick kid stuff.

@hammerheadfistpunch Best of luck to your prof. Hanging out inside is a big no no for us. A friend of ours is leaving the state and we wanted to send him off but will have to do it outside with a nice fire going and some heaters. My wife went and sent of our friends wife off outside yesterday and when she got back, she was freezing. We'll make sure to dress accordingly (26F tomorrow night).

@hammerheadfistpunch ASU has been a nightmare this semester. No Fall break and they shortened the semester by a week. Even last semester everything carried on as normal once classes went online. Made life very hectic for those of us that had to completely rearrange our lives. I just have one more class and a research project next semester and I’m done.

@dipodomysdeserti It does sound like normal sick. I feel like a new parent all over again with this virus, worrying about every sneeze and cough like it's life and death.

@dipodomysdeserti Hope everyone feels better. My GF tested Covid+ on Saturday (had been hybrid teaching with three different childcare options, me being one of them) so now we're all in isolation/quarantine.

Anyway, here's a pint from a bit further south in Ballyferriter from last year.

Donut's podcast on Joey Dunlop was great.
