Ugh... (Media, TV ads, cars, COVID19)
-
I know things have been tough this year, and reusing ads from previous years makes sense, but why WHY WHY did Buick have to bring back their asinine "Secret Santa'd myself a Buick!" campaign? Dunno why, but those commercials just grate on my nerves.
-
If you really wanted a car, why would you make it a Buick.
-
@skyfire77 because they cant afford to shoot a new campaign
-
I really hate the whole gifting someone a car thing. Neither me or my wife would be even remotely happy if the other bought them a car without their input. Both the money spent and intense personalization that is a car it boggles my mind these ads still run.
-
I'm already sick of this GMC ad. It's also a great showcase on how obscenely big these vehicles have become.
-
@ttyymmnn They’ve really gotten stupid big. I’ve owned and driven a lot of 80’s and 90’s full size vehicles, suburban, vans, trucks and while they were big they served a singular purpose with that size. These are just plain gigantic and dwarf even then old giant bastards.
-
@jminer Absolutely. That said, if my wife won $150k somewhere and TOLD ME she wanted to buy me a sports car and wouldn’t take “no” for an answer, I’d gladly point her to the GT3 I’d like under the tree.
-
@davesaddiction My wife has bought a project for me before without me knowing, but that’s a very different thing. Spending like $800 on something and $40k are very different things.
-
@jminer #TrueFacts

-
@ttyymmnn Yeah, that's about right. I'm 6' 2" and a lot of these trucks come to my fucking nipple and that is just too big for something that isn't medium duty!
-
@jminer And the truck in that photo isn't even that big by today's standards.
-
@ttyymmnn it's nice to see GMC being inclusive to people of short stature in their advertising...or, in more realistic Australian terminology...is that chick a dwarf?
-
I''m still waiting for my wife to buy me a Lexus with a red bow on it, an RC-F of course.
-
@highlander Spoiler: you're getting a UX.
