The Gee Bee model-Z replica. flown once.
The replica was built by Jeff Eicher and then flown by Delmar Benjamin, who you might have seen in the past flying a giant Gee-Bee R2 in airshows up until 2001. This plane flew, and afterward, they had a few little things to correct. But since then, it never flew again and is now seen at the Kermit Weeks Fantasy of Flight museum. This example is a faithful model built as exact as possible. The one seen in the movie, The Rocketeer, was a different build with a few changes to the wing area and tail.
As we can see, Delmar really enjoyed this plane.

@grindintosecond The fact that he is wearing a parachute may say something about his faith in the overall design of the Gee Bee. I wonder if Jimmy Doolittle wore a parachute.
Any first flight of anything gets a parachute. Elliot Seguin chutes up for any work.
