Does Oppo Surf?
-
Gonna do a little test of how much surf board fits in my Camaro today. Am really hoping to be able to make it to the beach without needing tie-downs or roof racks, but that initial fit above isn't all that promising.
Any guesses as to the Camaro's beach-run abilities? I'm gonna try various boards and equipment before I cruise on out there.

Hahaha. I'll admit my internet-surfing to ocean-surfing split is still like 99 to 1 these days.

@way2blu I do live 5 minutes from the ocean so it's obligatory that I spend time in the water whenever possible. And I do own a wavestorm. But I haven't tried surfing in a long time. I enjoy body boarding and body surfing so much that I just haven't wanted to deal with the hassle of the long board. So I'm regularly out catching some waves but surfing I've never gotten the hang of. I've been meaning to put the surf rack on the subaru roof and get out there but just haven't.
You've definitely are going for some kook of the day material with that setup haha! Idk how well a roof rack fits that car but sticking out the trunk definitely ain't gonna work long term.

@way2blu DUDE. WHY?
Love it. Though seriously, the car has a roof for a reason. -
@way2blu Since I could walk, I'm from Oahu. A bit colder here in NorCal, me in my natural environment:

I think that movie is so overrated, I think it's awful. But the surfing was real, and my model truck was used as a surf truck in Vietnam so that is what I will use it for! -
Not yet, but now that I love in NorCal I'm going to give it a go eventually.

@hammerheadfistpunch The best are the big ship wakes, we used to go chase them down and take a mile long ride off one of their outer wakes.

@jminer If you have never been out in the waves I would recommend body boarding and getting a feel for how it all works. I also body board, some breaks in Hawaii are body boarding only, like Walls and Makapu'u. They make these hybrid boards now, like big longer body boards you can surf on or just ride flat, fun for shit conditions. I think I might get one, my friend's is a blast. When my shoulder is bugging me I often just get the fins and bodyboard out.

@415s30 Thanks for the recommendation - any places I should hit first or intro teacher you can recommend?
-
@jminer I had found a good instructor locally here through Airbnb experiences. Worth checking that out for your area! Although theres certainly more of that sort of thing around here in the South!
-
@Wrong-Wheel-Drive I bet, although I still see a fair bit of surfers up here too when the waves kick up. Thats a solid recommendation on where to look though - thanks!

@jminer Here I have heard the people in Bolinas at 2 Mile surf shop are nice. I have only bought things at the shop but they have instructors and even a summer camp. At least you don't have reefs here, that's a whole other hazard, but the waves in those places build slowly and you see them from a long way off. Beach breaks are more sudden and you have less time to pop up and get situated. I usually go to Fort Cronkhite if I want to go quick.

@jminer I would second trying body (or boogie) boarding first. A) the board is foam, and smaller so less likely to lose it and whack yourself. B)Can start off in smaller waves in shallower water. C) can learn how to read a wave forming, and where you should be. (This is easier said than done from higher up on shore)
