Preparing to disassemble the mini. Therefore shelf space must be cleared. Out of boxes comes leftovers I forgot.Anyone north of Denver need a 12yr old 850w PSU that can only support maybe 280 watts total now, some 5850, 4850, gtx560 cards that may not work and are most likely not win10 supported? Or copious volumes of coax or cat5 nosuffix cable?
(The future recipient of 3 cans of liquid wrench)
Guess how I’m celebrating earth day? Not the way some are hoping... -
@grindintosecond It reminds me of my boxes of junk in the basement. Cables, monitors, keyboards, mice, cards, routers, modems....
Where are you located north of Denver?
-
@grindintosecond I think the 5850 might still work? Regardless I know my 4670 (and 3870) worked with Windows 10. If you installed the official drivers, they would only run at 800x600 or something like that, but you could install the Vista driver and they'd work perfectly. The only issue is that sometime Windows Update would get overzealous and install a new driver, requiring me to reload the old one.
Wish I had kept the 4670, if I still had it I would have sold my 5500XT during this bubble (possibly it's still worth ebaying some old card so I can do that, though it ads cost and hassle, and I think prices are coming down a bit...)
But yeah, I got rid of my 7870, two 5870s, the 4670, at least one 3870, and 2900 Pro (worst card ever) last summer in my pre-move panic (surely I would never need any of that obsolete stuff again right?) Of course then I could have used a video card and a power supply (which I also cleaned out) like a month later to trouble shoot stuff, so I guess that was excessive downsizing. Maybe save one video card...

@musashi66 just south of you! Longmont center.
-
@facw perspective here. The dual 5850s were replaced with a single R9-280 and was smoother if not better. Then a 770 then a 1070 now a 2060. All for probably 250 less watts. The 5850 today would be like a 4cylinder crew cab Tacoma that gets 3mpg and just goes the county road speed limit
-
@grindintosecond I guess you are close to @VincentMalamute . We really need to do a summer drive to Estes for a slice of pie.
-
@musashi66 @Grindintosecond oh! I'm SW Loveland. Pie!
Too bad I have no need for video cards.

ah! Nevermind. Sounds like it's on par with some Matrox Millenium and 3dfx Voodoo cards I probably still have around.
-
@musashi66 wheres Vincent?
I might luck out and have a functional and plated mini with disc brakes in time for fall. Blue though. Would be a real nice drive then. -
@grindintosecond He's just north of you in Loveland. Mini would be awesome, there would be someone with a car smaller and more nimble than mine
-
@musashi66 @VincentMalamute . I also have a 19” Weber charcoal grill needing a home if y’all need something like that. We’re gassy these days

We’ll see about that! I’m the one building so no promises
-
@grindintosecond Video cards and grills! Come and get them!
Funny enough, I got a charcoal grill from a neighbor that was moving, but we still use gas 99.99% of the time.
-
@grindintosecond What is your project situation? What are you doing exactly?

SW Loveland next to Boedecker Reservoir. I go through Longmont frequently to visit a friend in Boulder.
-
Up until about a year ago, I was still running a 5770 or something like that. They work just fine under Windows 10.
-
@musashi66 a restored and painted mk4 red mini shell arrives this summer to replace my rotted old n busted mk4 shell. Hopefully I’ll have both subframes ready in time to just plug in and start driving. But first I haft a make room so I can take apart old worn out Winston and have places to put things.
So at this point, where I could unsafely drive him around the neighborhood only, his radiator looks packed with mud (rust water) and just needs to be disassembled. Only good things are interior and front drivetrain. All else gets replaced.
When done papers will call it a 78 Leland mini.
-
@grindintosecond Nice! LHD or RHD?
-
@musashi66 English would say Correct side. Lol
-
@grindintosecond They've been known to be wrong about a thing or two
It sounds like a fun project though, good luck!

I used to have an ATI All-In-Wonder with the 3D XPression chip.
