My CDL driver is out with a broken rib. My star driver is on vacation. One of my rural drivers is on vacation. A promising new driver injured his knee and is out for a month. One of my weaker drivers is gone for the rest of the month. Another driver is gone for three days because I couldn't say no when they told me they wanted to take the motorcycle endorsement course.
So... I'm down a lot of drivers, some of which have difficult shoes to fill.
But it's totally fine. Like, genuinely, not a huge issue. I have to shuffle things around and rebuild routes a bit, but these coming days should still go smoothly. It kind of blows my mind. Eight months ago I had to offer drivers double pay to take out two routes, everyone was working 6 days, management was always on route and putting in 16 hour days, and we were still failing. Hard.
And today, I'm sitting at home building out the next week's schedule with coffee in hand, stress-free in a situation that would have spelled disaster less than a year ago. It's a nice feeling, seeing how far my team has come. It's also wonderful being able to let these guys take vacations, have a personal day, come in late on a Monday morning, etc.
I'm approaching two years in this job, which will be the longest I've stayed at any one place—not counting a company I've started. I like it here. I like how every day is different, with new problems to solve. I like how as long as we're hitting performance targets, I've more-or-less got full power over how the business is run.
What I don't like... Is the fact that I no longer get to see cats at work! Here, have some work kitties !

@aestheticsinmotion I'm rather curious about the company now. Though I've just gotten a $2 raise at the factory, I'm still looking occasionally for better opportunities. I might be in the market in a year.
