1991 Dodge Monaco LE

@boxer_4 Well well well
-
@boxer_4 pretty sure that’s an alternate universe Audi 5000.
-
@boxer_4 Wow, when I was a kid, we had neighbors with an Eagle Premier, but I don't recall ever seeing the Dodge variant. Its one of those cars I wouldn't mind having - particularly a Premier ES Limited, if I had YouTuber warehouse space.
They were decent cars, certainly the best sedans Chrysler was building at the time.
-
@hfv I was thinking Mitsibishi.
-
-
@ranwhenparked I think there were around 20,000 Monacos sold compared with 120,000ish Premieres. It would be cool to see this in a collection somewhere - I doubt there are many left.
Most of the repurposed AMC cars were better than what Chrysler was building at the time.
-
I've only seen the sporty version of the Monaco! I've never seen the base model
It was also an inspiration for the 2012 Camry
-
@sony1492 Both Giugiaro designs, so yeah, kinda.
-
@boxer_4 Even Murilee Martin has only found one of these and documented it.

So an 80s rebadged Renault was rebadged again as a Dodge, the platform of which eventually turned into the LH cars. Tiny sales but huge lasting impact.
And confusingly, this one you posted isn't trashed somehow? I have to imagine the value of that car has been a few hundred bucks above scrap value for over a decade now. Where has that been all these years?
-
@whoistheleader Some elderly person's garage, and the nearest grocery store, church, and salon parking lots.
I serviced a few of these when I worked in a service station back in the 90s, but it's been 20 years since I've seen one, at least. I did spot a Premier for sale on Craigslist a couple of years ago.
-
@boxer_4 that is a fantastic find
-
@boxer_4 I had no idea these were a thing.
-
@mark-tucker People just don't expect to have to maintain a Dodge like a Renault I guess. Probably resulted in lots of premature deaths for these cars. So a high rate of attrition plus low sales isn't a winning combo for longevity.
-
@boxer_4 The Monaco was indeed rare, but it was most commonly sold as the Eagle Premier, the at the time flagship for Eagle. I think it had a lot of Mitubishi underpinnings.
