DOTS 2019-2020

Inspired by cb's post from yesterday I'm dumping most of my unposted sightings here.
'69 Full-size Chevy wagon.
Marina
T12 Bluebird. Once common but now almost completely vanished from roads.
Worst photo ever of: 1st generation Opel Manta
Now this is something properly cool you don't see every day. A Finnish Ajokki bodied Vanaja bus probably from late 50's or early 60's.
That's a nice colour.
Nice colours on Porshces pt. 2
Nicely preserved 80's Opel Kadett E van
Early 70's Plymouth Satellite.
You don't really see Hondas of this vintage around.
I'm not sure if I've seen this paint on the new Corolla after this but it looks really good.
Gemballa 996, Fiero and M3 in the same photo.
ยจ
Renault Goelette and tuk-tuk
Peugeot 504 pickup
Original 80's Subaru Leone wagon. Those hubcaps are oh so 80's.
Roughest Alpina I've ever seen. Mismatched wheels, faded stripes sidemirror almost falling off. But it seemed to have all the Alpina specific parts so it's most likely a real deal.
Volvo PV
Another well preserved E Kadett.
Renault 5. Don't ask what happened to this photo, it's kind of cool though.
Euro-spec Mazda 323 GT-R -
I'm really surprised at the number of American cars here. Lots of classics but also some less known ones that have got to be hard to keep on the road due to parts availability. The Comanche is probably one of the more obscure ones.
Haha, that Renault 5 looks like it is chopped like a classic hot rod.
AND THAT 504 PICKUP GIB NOW!
SO MUCH WANT!

@whoistheleader Interior shot of the 5
Ribbed for your pleasure
We do have a lot of American cars around (at least on European scale) and a sizeable enthusiast community. That Comanche has probably been sold here new back in the day. -
@kac I forgot that Jeep has had a half European parent company for ages. So would the Comanche have been distributed through Renault dealerships? Where were Jeeps sold?
The Renault Le Car that was sold here is basically impossible to find today. There was a Le Car cup car that sold recently near me but that's the only one I've seen for sale anywhere near me.

@whoistheleader It was through a big dealership network that represented Mopar brands and Nissan.
I've seen photos of Imsa Le Car before. -
@kac
It appeared to be a real raced-since-new cup car in the photos. It was white and had had the livery removed but still had all the parts. Here's a cool photo:Didn't know they had their own dealership network. Shame they were saddled with Nissan. Does some form of that network still remain to sell FCA's American vehicles?

@whoistheleader That is a cool photo.
Nissan used to make good (even if rust prone) cars. They don't have FCA products anymore but are around and sell bunch of other brands. Jeeps are sold through different dealership network now alongside other FCA brands and an independent dealership is importing Ram trucks since they aren't a part of FCA's official Finnish import program.
-
@kac I can't remember a time where Nissan was great though. They made some good cars, but great ones? Eh. Maybe the hardbody trucks and second gen Pathfinder plus their Halo sports cars but not many good appliance cars. Though the 2000s Altima wasn't great but will always be the 2000s Altima.
I didn't know they are known for rust. Guess they just don't show it much so I don't notice. Like 2000s Silverados are notorious for very visible rust spots but Mazdas rust from the inside out. Being in a non-snowy area it's only evident with transplant cars.
There are a plethora of dangerously rusty Jeep CJs on craigslist though.

@whoistheleader I didn't say they were great
Although some of their JDM efforts could be classified as such I think.
Mazdas are notorious for rust (check out the rear arch on the main post's last photo) but at least pre 2000s Nissans seem to be worse than say Toyota. It would be constant battle against rust if I wanted to keep my beater Almera on the road. -
@kac Eewww, you owned a Versa/Almera!
Why would you do such a thing to yourself? I actually didn't know these were notorious for rust. I live in a place where even 90s Tacomas don't rust.
Nissans can be okay but their longevity is dubious at best, especially when you get to their CVTs. Some of their older sedans can be at the very least good in the short term I think. Ghosn really sold the soul of the company to the rental agencies which have coincidentally had similar economic troubles. At least they are bringing the Z to 2021 and not leaving it stuck in 2008.
-
@whoistheleader Again, not that one mine is an N15 so the same as JDM Pulsar and very similar to your B14 Sentra.
Got it as a hand me down. Decent econobox beater apart from the rust issue. These were available from the factory with SR20 even.
-
@kac Ah yes, the dependably crappy hand me down Sentra. Much much better than a Versa.
One of my cousins has a geriatric owned Maxima more or less exactly like this has supposedly is surprisingly unreliable.
But it does have suspiciously vast rear legroom. Imagine this but in two tone chocolate and tan with cloth seats
It's a good car when it works and is extremely comfortable.
-
@kac GIB the Marina!
-
@whoistheleader Nissan's reputation of being reliable went down in the early 2000's here too after switching from importing Japanese built cars to building them more locally in the UK.
-
@kac most of Ford's Mexican built cars have bad reputations for build quality but their UK built cars tend to have a reputation for unreliability.
-
-
@sovande I kind of wish it would snap in half to greatly improve its looks.
-
@whoistheleader I agree! That would make it twice as beautiful!
-
@sovande And of course they didn't bother to clean the headlights either. Blue and yellow is a questionable color scheme. And what's with the random black stripe?
