I Finally bought a Welder
-
Today is a momentous day. I finally bought a welder. I finally got motivation last week to work on making out entry way a functional place, and not just a giant 8x8X8 junk drawer. I started by building a big organizer. It looks like this. !
It does it’s job alright but we also wanted another coat rack for everyday coats. I could have just bought a coat rack, but instead I bought a welder. The cheapest one I could buy locally.
My plan was to use an antique bike frame. I bought it at a lawn sale years ago. Planing to build a chopper with it, but the rear of the frame is crooked because, according to the lady I bought it from, it was left in a snow bank and it by a plow. so it couldn’t ever be used as a bike again. So becoming useful wall art isn’t the worst thing that could happen.
Along with the welder I got some. 1/4” steel rod to make the hooks.
It’s not actually done yet. I need to make a bracket to support the top, and I also want to put more hooks along the chain stays. But I’m definitely happy with how it looks. I’m glad that even with coats on it you can still see what it is. -
@hfv that's a good first project.
Hows the learning curve on the welder? -
Careful or your wife is going to have spending all Winter remodeling all the closets in your house.

@sony1492 I’m still pretty terrible at it, but I’m learning. I had a real hard time when I first started practicing. Then I realized that the bike frame I was practicing on was aluminum! Lol the first time I tried welding steel to steel I was successful. The welds are only ugly if you look at them.

@nomdeplume that doesn’t sound horrible. I had fun with both of these projects. As long as she gives me creative control we’re all good
