interstate366’s long-running on-off 5th gen Prelude build
-
So, I figured I’d start the forum off with the car I’ve owned the longest, my 2001 Prelude. I’ve had the car since early 2014. As of now I drive it only occasionally, often to take my dog places, as the TL takes up the bulk of my driving and the Aristo is more comfortable. But still, there’s just something about a 90s Honda.
Specs:
186,000 miles on chassis
JDM H23A 2.3L DOHC VTEC engine, swap completed October 2014, a bit under 30,000 miles on swap. The original H22 had a blown head gasket when I bought it.
Stock 5-speed transmission, 2nd gear grinds so I may pick up another transmission at some point.
OEM aero kit
JDM 00-02 Accord Euro-R wheels with Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 tires
Hawk HP Plus brake pads
StopTech rotors
Neuspeed front strut tower bar
DC Sports rear strut tower bar
Vibrant Motorsports header
AEM V2 intake
Greddy exhaust (installed by previous owner)
VIS carbon fiber hood (ditto)
Back seats removed and trunk gutted for weight reduction (hey, I was young and dumb)To-do list:
Fix the front bumper that someone hit-and-ran into me at my old job
Put it on the lift at work to see if there’s any underbody rust
ST Suspensions rear sway bar. Been putting it off for like 4 years now
Various suspension upgrades including springs/shocks and replacing all the 20-year-old bushings and such
New tires. The Continentals are starting to crack around the edges. Gonna try to use my Bridgestone employee powers to source a set of RE71R’s but might have to settle for Indy 500’s.
Maybe new transmission? JDM ones are getting affordable. -
@interstate366 I love it! I think ITA97 had a prelude race car IIRC, you may want to pick his about it.
-
@jminer thanks! His race car was an Integra.
-
I always liked these when they came out. Wouldn’t it be neat if Honda brought back the Prelude?
-
I"ve been window-shopping these lately, they are dangerously inexpensive.

A couple years ago there was a Honda/Acura concept called the ZSX, basically a smaller NSX with a mid-mounted Civic turbo drivetrain. I think that’s the closest we’d get.

For now. The 90s Japanese price bubble is starting to take prices up a little bit. Local Craigslist has a couple low mileage examples asking 10k each.

Yeah, main stream coupes aren’t a big thing right now.

These had such great styling, I always thought it looked the better part of a decade ahead of it's time and it's aged just as well.
-
@chariotoflove And all of 8 people would buy it!
-
I was wondering if you still had that, such a handsome car.
-
@s65 thanks. Since your hiatus I sold the 4th gen Prelude to my stepbrother (who only picked it up a couple weeks ago, after I sold it in 2017), and as in the process of selling the 3rd gen, so I basically have only one Prelude now.
-
making money/space for the Aristo and Fieros? What are you gonna do with those anyway?
-
@s65 Aristo is getting an engine swap at some point (what it is is TBD, other than it won’t be a GTE because prices have jumped outside of my means in the past year) and the black Fiero is most likely a parts car for the red Fiero
-
@interstate366 your stable of vehicles is good, but this is my favourite
-
Out for a drive yesterday
-
@monkeepuzzle thanks. I’ve finally come around to it again after a few years of it being...not necessarily neglected, but underused.
-
@nth256 dangerously inexpensive is right. always the red headed step child, they never got the love they deserved. oddly people seemed to buy even Accord coupes over the Lude
-
@monkeepuzzle you can fit adults in the back seat of an Accord coupe is why
-
@interstate366 what are you doing with the red Fiero? I missed that
-
@s65 restomod/track car. The black Fiero was going to be that, but it’s too far gone mechanically so it’ll be a parts car
