Spoiler: VW Dealers Still Suck
-
So I talked the other day about the leases on my e-Golfs coming up and I was going to get an ID4. Well, I just got an email from VW Credit that I'm within the 90 days of lease end, so I can start the process now.
So I called VW Credit to see how I purchase the cars. The rep told me the easiest thing to do was just get financing through the dealership, that way that can handle all the paperwork. This is fine with me since I know they can also find the best rate.
So I email my dealer (Santa Monica), and ask to start the process. Unfortunately, I was told I should go through them, or any dealer, because VW dealers will add a CPO stamp to every lease purchase, and that usually adds a few bucks. And she told me it's not an option, it's just what the dealers do. She told me instead to get financing on my own.
Now, this isn't a huge deal. My mom is actually considering just writing a check for both cars, but I'd rather not. I can get more of a return on 11k than a used car note would be in interest. But it's just fucking annoying. Now I have to shop around for a good rate and fuck with all the paperwork.

Go to your nearest credit union or AAA. They will have the best terms and rates. And I'm not sure you need a dealership to complete the transaction but I would check with your insurance agent to see if they can do the DMV paperwork.

"Almost all Dealerships Still Suck"
FTFY.

Didn’t know you were in LA. I use VWSM for service. They’re not bad there. Or VW pacific.

@golfr-guy
I'm a little further north. I live a few minutes from @Wrong-Wheel-Drive if you remember where he lives.
But the closest VW dealers to me suck major ass. When we got the e-Golfs Santa Monica was the only close dealer who responded and was willing to work over email. Plus, they gave me a hell of a deal. And I love that the sales rep I deal with (Bridgette) was very upfront about the lease purchase. I saved a lot of hassle with that honesty. So I will continue to give them my business and recommend them.

I'm going to join a credit union my mom is part of which she gets through her employer. That should give me a good chance for getting a decent rate. And hopefully they can handle the DMV stuff. But from talking to VW Credit it sounds like they handle a lot too.

@his_stigness You actually don't need to do a lease buyout thru a dealer, although that is an option.
Most likely what they will try to do is shop around for the best rate, try to add on a % or two so they get paid as much as possible, and also add on 3 different extended warranties.
Find your $$$ directly, either thru an online lender or a credit union. It may seem like a hassle, but will certainly be worth it.
-
@His_Stigness I second the credit union option - I am still a member at my old employee credit union and their rates were amazing.
-
the VW part is irrelevant. Dealers still suck.
That's why people tolerate Tesla's poor build quality and Elon's antics.
-
They should still make a little diesel rabbit pickup, that's all I have to say.
-
Interest rates on used cars aren’t good. My last credit score was 883 (were shooting for 900), and with zero down, I managed to get 3.5%. I hate paying that much, so we’ll knock out one car within a year, and the other the year after.

@his_stigness If you don't like their sales, wait til you get to their service department!

When I had to do the "fix" on my TDI I had knots in my stomach when I took it in because their service departments are so bad.
