@carsoffortlangley And when you combine jungles and ruins they're even better.

Also not buying the reason it's falling apart.

That's a bummer. When the first cable snapped was bad enough but when a little while ago I heard about the second I got a little concerned. Might be one of those things that's easier (and no doubt safer) to decommission and replace than try to repair. Hopefully they are able to replace it with something better

Considering funding for ongoing operations was a struggle, I’ll be shocked if they replace it.

                        (Pleasantly shocked, obvs).

I see in the article that the instrument platform weighs 900 tons. I suppose the problem here is that they assembled it in pieces and that there is no safe way to get it down or to even work on it in the decayed state. I suppose they will cut the cables and let it fall.

                              If you like your movies.

This is the location (pretended to be in Cuba) in the movie 90s Bond Film (and video game) GoldenEye. Also, seen in the movie Contact.

I think it was still somewhat operable even after the hurricane damage (which wasn’t THAT major) and was being used for at least something until cables started snapping

@ttyymmnn Well, I certainly would. There's a new 75-character signature size limit that apparently you've satisfied. (Will be in the report on the first session of the Duma, which was exceedingly excellent.)

@rusty-vandura Character limited. I wasn't going to list all of them, just the ones that I play with some regularity. I'd need a lot of characters otherwise. What I really need is just 8 more characters, but I don't want to ditch the top line. I really like the new font size and color for the sigs, though.

@jawzx2 Apparently, they had ordered a replacement for the first cable that broke, but, the second one snapped before they could install it, and now the structure's too unstable to work on safely. Also, they now have to assume that all remaining cables are at risk of failure.
