Waffle House was truly a marvel about 10+ years ago. I've eaten there a few times in the past year, multiple locations, and it's a shadow of its former self. I can only assume Covid, plus the labor shortage, changed things forever.
They still do a good job, but the menu is about 1/4 of what it was, and the prices have spiked terribly with no improvement in quality.
I miss getting 12-15 topping options on my hash browns. Today I think it's 5, maybe 6.
A dozen burgers and melts to choose from? More like 3 or 4 now. They still make one of the best burgers in the business (suck it, Five Guys!) but the experience is a far cry from the famously overwhelmingly huge picture menus of their heyday. It does make me sad. I have many memories there, in all states of mind, and they were always good ones.
