@pip-bip Kind of a shame. They were distinctive beasts. They were never a huge success as they struggled to sell 12k in a year. Definitely a future classic however.

Properly maintained an utilized Wankels that run specified discrete RPM and don't get turbo charged to high heaven, flooded, run low on oil, or not properly driven, are extremely reliable. Especially in a low hours demand run time range extender. It's a good power to weight and size generator too. It's an application the Wankel should absolutely excel at and last the life of the car. See FB RX7 12a models that run 100k miles plus without rebuilds, as the prime mover.

It's the range extending mostly that I am mourning. Plus the sound of the Wankel is just something I enjoy. I'm sure it would be muted and soul less, but I'd know it's there.

Oh yeah there's a crap ton of caveats. But the exciting part was that it would finally be used in an application not setup for failure. It's the perfect storm of ideal conditions. le sigh.

The question is "What GM acquisition hasn't turned to shit?" It seems that most things they've tried recently have been failures. If I were rich I might be interested in a Corvette, but probably not. The one GM car made in the last few years that I would like to buy, the Volt, has been discontinued with no equivalent vehicle on the horizon.
