I saw those videos when I first started as a track coach! I had to learn how to flop so I could teach the kids how to flop. The kids thought it was hilarious that their coach could clear the bar. 🙂 Thankfully, they were just middle-schoolers and the bar wasn't very high. (ba-dum-tiss).

@CarsOfFortLangley You can definitely argue that social/technical/etc changes have shifted what makes somebody a major figure in many areas away from depth and toward short-term image. However, the world is also full of disciplines where it takes many years of effort to be any good and many more to gain serious recognition. If it usually takes half a human lifespan to become a Great in some field then it's always going to feel like the greats are dying off.

I don't know why but I love the whole Berlin airlift story.

I think the thing that resonates with me is that we didn't treat the Germans as a conquered people. Once we removed their government, we helped restore the country. Basic humanity was not forgotten, or perhaps basic humanity was what the world needed so desperately after six years of carnage. The Airlift also showed what this country is capable of if we are united in a cause.

So, great drummer and great character for the Stones. Very sorry to see him go. Great that he ran around with some serious rock stars and still made it to 80 though. My best to his family and friends.

On to the Oppo relevance There are a number of articles on him that speak to his $250 million worth, and his grand car collection and then they reference his 1937 something or other and his Citroen. Come on, we have to know more. There has to be some real interesting cars in there. Anyone know of a list anywhere?

we had a well publicized freeze here in TX that killed power for over a day and killed my pistachio trees, everything else has recovered nicely. apparently pistachios don't do well in really cold climes either. wife is mad about it but they were not in a place to much benefit for shade and 2 less trees for me to mow around! I hear any nut trees are good for smoking meat so I will keep some of the carcasses for that.

@just-jeepin Born in Syracuse, then his mom made the family move back to Germany where she was from, then he got conscripted to dig trenches in WWII, then he moved back to America as a young adult, got drafted into the Korean war and got... sent back to Germany. Oof.
