@duurtlang I only share the start and finish in advance. The pins on the map are potential checkpoints, but some of them won't survive the culling and the ones that do are no help to competitors because there are multiple routes and they won't know which one they want to take until they see what the specific items are and how many points each is worth. At the start of the day there's an hour period before teams can leave the line where they can plan their routes.

Hi all, I AM IN. Have my co driver/navigator and ready to rock. Really excited to be back, and as a returning champion! I sent you an email per the above instructions, please let me know you received it (or didn't). I even created a special instagram account, @Team_Old_Buicks just for this. (I don't really use Instagram that much so all good)

I'll be driving the '73 Buick, for the first time in 20+ years the AC WORKS! For whatever that's worth... I just finished building a whole new AC system mostly from scratch, had to hack up the water pump, found out the fan clutch was bad, and will be bringing spare belts and a few gallons of water 😉 I think it might be overpressurized too, will find out next weeknd!

@partypooper2012 there have been a few preliminary posts on the event previously, as well as the posts about other Oppo rallies in previous years. The full detail post for the event will be coming soon. I'm not involved in sticker design, but that's an interesting idea

I know of an S-10 in my town that qualifies. It's more rust than truck, still on the road.

Were you simply planning on wandering around aimlessly? I tried to look for some places to drive on dirt in the area and found an off-road park that sounds like it gets very crowded. They do have a dirt drage strip though......

I also found gravelmap.com and they have a few short segments listed nearby.

Not entirely aimlessly; I have one area I’ve visited before and would like to canvas more extensively, and I received a recommendation for a scenic dead end road from a park ranger I met randomly in the area.

A little further from the park where I’m staying I know several water crossings and back roads worth visiting, and further south from there is Madison which has spectacular scenery (well, less spectacular now that the leaves are down and the world is turning brown) and one of the most challenging roads in Indiana (which sadly isn’t that challenging unless there’s snow).

Anyway, I’m pretty good at finding interesting roads, so whether we go somewhere I’m familiar with or not I’m confident the wandering will be pretty good, but there’s always a risk that what I enjoy won’t be worth the drive for you. I definitely wouldn’t drive several hours unless you really enjoyed my wandering posts on Kinja and are very bored, and even then it’s iffy.
