Yeah the ratios are too tall. It can be corrected with a 4.10 rear tho

@Huzer Can't be any worse than bald tires on a car without ABS or traction control. He'll learn all about momentum, careful braking, and correct following distances. Not to mention an ability to read the road for grip levels!

@LimitedTimeOnly as long as you leave the traction control on, the car is surprisingly good at keeping you out of trouble. I've only turned mine off a handful of times, mostly in big empty parking lots in the rain to do some highly-satisfying donuts

Mustang from 2011-14 years for me with updated engines. 2014 is the most refined version of that generation, you get better tail lights, headlights, better fuel economy, performance, better dash, and slightly better interior than 2005-2009 models. My second choice would be a challenger, because it is not trying to be anything else other than being a challenger. It is big and roomy. I don’t know how bad is the drivability, but it just looks good to me. The Camaro is a third for me if it is a 2015 which has really good driving dynamics and improved looks over other generations. Too bad Chevy didn’t make visibility a bit better, they really had a nice package there.

Out here in the Chanhassen I have a customer who daily drives a 2015 GT coupe manual in Maroon. He's curb checked it twice this year but doesn't complain one bit.

My coworker dailys a 2010 challenger R/T (orange with black stripes) from Plymouth to Chan. He bought snow tires and that sucker is still sketchy as a scared cat on ice.

One day when the kids are grown I too plan to join the silliness. But I think I'll still have a beater for the really bad days.

What I was trying to indicate was how hard it is to get close to what a pro driver does and in a spec class like GT4 at Daytona there won't be a place to hide.

Imagine what its like coming off the straight at 180 MPH down to 80 or so in turn 1.... Brake too late or not hard enough, you are off. Brake too early and you are slow. Brake to hard and you flat spot your tires.

About the only thing that he may have going for him is I bet he can get all the simulator time he wants!

@LimitedTimeOnly My experience has been that if something bugs you about a car on the test drive, it's not going to bug you less as time goes on. Quite the opposite.

Of the choices you listed, I'd get the Mustang, but I'm not a fan of EcoBust engines.

@ZHP-Sparky-the-5th The feedback when I drove the EPP Mustang coupe was not as good as with the BRZ, and I was constantly aware of the size, so my takeaway was that it isn't as good of a driver's car, but it is certainly good.

@Darkbrador Teaching bodywork is really difficult too because so much of the process is subjective, there are standard techniques but its ultimately something you need to have a feel for (and patience)

Panel alignment on older cars is a task in of itself too, the way panels move in relation to body shims, or adjustments at hinges usually isn't intuitive. It can take several days to dial a car in and if someone else has done a bunch of structural work , you might not trust that the perfect panel alignment even exists. (Which is where grinding and welding come into play)

@Krusty-Walnut Definitely not an $8000 car. Low miles are what they are, but there’s strong evidence looking at the pictures that this has been sitting for a while and that it belongs to some sort of “We Sell USED Cars!” type of dealer. I don’t like the trim falling apart, the rust on the rear hatch, or likely need for a re-spray for that price. Only at a value like $6000 would this be worth it, so either necessary work can be put into it for minimal profit or you drive it around for a year and sell it for what you’ve got into it. But again, $8k is too much.

@LimitedTimeOnly Lexus is a fancier toyota. It may be a little more expensive now, but reliability outweighs few more dollars you will save initially on something like bmw. such is my opinion at least.

@facw I can't stand auto HVAC in a car. Being in the upper mid-west I can't tell you how often the car will 'decide' that we don't need to route the warm air towards the windshield while it's snowing but instead direct it towards the floor. Also, I prefer being able to direct the air in incremental amounts towards either. Any auto system I have encountered it is either 100% towards one or exactly half between the two and nothing between.
Part of the reason I sought out a base spec Sportwagen (other part being no sunroof).

I've actually been driving around since I found out how bad the original pipe is with my OBDII WiFi adapter and my phone running the Torque Pro app as there is no temp GAUGE in the car, but Torque can read from the coolant temp. sensor! 🙂

Can't tell if formatting is borked or things have just gotten that much heavier. Based on the increased power levels and better transmissions, you'd expect the acceleration to improve more than that.
