As one crew learnt, sadly. They were flying in an area they weren’t familiar with, something that goes with the job, and they navigated using a location they thought was at sea level when in fact it is an island. All four crew lost.

@Cé-hé-sin IIRC Mi-35s carry 2-3 crew and up to 8 passengers. Watching this video is watching between 2-11 people die, plus whoever was on the ground, because it looked like they were heading towards a house. War is horrible and should be avoided at all cost.

@italia Looking back at it, the one thing KSL has a terrible tendency to do is publish a story around the lines of Helicopter Crashes, this is a developing story. Then people will comment and KSL will go back and update everything so the initial comments always stick around making it look like some people never read it. They will do a red updated notice at the top but they rarely do a timestamp at the bottom of when and what the update was.

@cé-hé-sin They probably help it avoid damage in collisions at less than 5mph...

@skyfire77 Also, it's funny because there is no species of bird call the Red Hawk/Kestrel/Falcon in Southern Africa so it's name is completely made up. Which is sad because there are plenty of Raptors in Southern Africa to choose from.

I think, though I'm not certain, that this is the situation plaguing Boeing right now.

As for S92 crashes, I doubt your pilots do very many RTTs. And there might even be an argument that the S92 isn't designed, or at least intended, to perform one. The software certainly wasn't. Tex Johnston barrel rolled the Dash 80, but I suspect the computer wouldn't let him do it these days.

Awesome write up! I really love leaving more about attack helicopters and the A-10 right now. Incredible machines. Always been a fighter jet kind of guy but I’ve more recently realized how much cooler and how extremely dangerous and powerful Attack helicopters are, and i also recently realized (directly due to the attack helicopter reading) just how insanely capable the A-10 is. The A-10 is my favorite military jet but i havent settled on a favorite attack helicopter except maybe the gazelle.
