Congratulations—got my private pilot certification, SEL and SES about a decade ago. Haven’t flown since kiddos came along, but get to the Redbird simulator every few months. Hope to jump back in a few years down the road.
Sure others have better tips, but simulators (including Flight Simulator) are a great (and much less expensive). practice tool. Also, there’s a ton of great resources out there with the FAA and AOPA (you should become a member) for building your skills online. Finally, if you ever get lost—oh, say on your first solo cross country navigating with just dead reckoning—remember that pretty much every small town has a church and a water tower. Just fly there and you can usually read the name of the town on the water tower (not that I’d know).
