@Just-Jeepin The song is of course a take on the classic Slinky commercial song, which presumably inspired the retro look and feel as well. I think that goes back to the '60s, but the Amigo lyrics are more similar to the 1970s version:

Clearly it was effective marketing in the sense that it is permanently tied to the Amigo in my brain.

@Sam-Blockhan I've seen period promo material for the 810 coupe as well, but even back in the day I have no memory of seeing one. My uncle had an 810 wagon, silver, maybe a 78 or 79 model. I remember him telling me about the "Z car engine". Some years ago, when I lived in Bellevue, there was a very clean 810 wagon with wood trim that I spotted around town several times.

@Sam-Blockhan Yay! I always liked the fact those first gen Accents came with selective yellow fogs FROM THE FACTORY! ๐Ÿ˜„

Sporty trims of the second-gen were never common here in Canada at all, at least not here in Nova Scotia.

I do like a good MC-gen SR though! They were a Canada-only model! I see one or two around here on occasion, but they are rare!

      Cheers! ๐Ÿ˜„

I don't know how Jamie survived into adulthood, but he was the friend with access to all manner of vehicles and risky ideas.

One night without a lot to do, we were driving on highway 99, a two way five lane road, stopped at a light. A car rolls up next to us and revs it's engine. Some words were exchanged about following me or something. Soon Jamie and I were off as fast as might max could take us, darting down a back street and pulling over, shutting down the engine, and off with the lights. A minute later the car finds us and we are flying down a back street again trying to keep up. I think we found them once more, but the game ended soon after. Probably for the best.

@Sam-Blockhan Of that era? You're not missing much. Buddy of mine had an '80 in college, with the inline six. Ran like shit, had no heat, and barely any brakes. Had to two-foot it until it warmed up. But I suppose I should give it some credit; he abused the hell out of it, and it never did actually completely let him down.

@Sam-Blockhan Wow, the Yaris is familiar, but I'm not sure I've ever seen an Echo hatch, and until now I forgot the Tercel was made with 4 doors. I think the ultra-low entry price of the coupe is what made them so popular.

@ranwhenparked -- We may hope. Always worth getting out the rubbing compound and elbow grease and giving the problem a chance to be easy. I'd definitely want to be gentle with the attempt to bring it back for a last hurrah.

The bed looks dinged up from being used as a truck, the tailgate might have that sheet of diamond plate for reasons, there seems to be a goober on the lower back corner of the driver's door, and, this being presumably in the Pacific Northwest, whatever's been conducting photosynthesis on the tops of those rear fenders and possibly the roof may have done some damage.
Dodge Connection offers repro wood that supposedly meets judging specs for $350 a set. The trim looks pretty simple to make, but between sourcing the desired red oak planks and the value of your time, that might be a good bargain.

@Sam-Blockhan I'm surprised you found one, much less four. I love them but they really didn't make the slightest bit of sense.

@Sam-Blockhan They also came in yellow:

@ranwhenparked I am aware. I was referring to how, when the Forenza and Reno had Daewoo badges, the sedan and wagon were the Nubira and the hatchback was the Lacetti, at least in Europe. @Echo51 seemed unsure, so I was clarifying for him.
