@chan I wish it was a good business case! It sounds like a good idea - they're effectively producing something that's readily available north of $200k, but for far cheaper! It sounds great. Unfortunately, market reasons and SUV demand and etc means that most people aren't that fussed.
@save_the_milanos I was contacted by the then-owner and personally offered the opportunity to purchase a 164 Q4, because he knew about my high-mile daily-driven S and I was active on the forums at the time. It was black (were all the Q4s black?) with tan leather, just like my S. It had ~40K miles and included the proprietary factory driveline diagnostic computer to talk to the Q4 system. He was advertising it at $25k, (I think this was in about 2002 or 2003...) but told me if I wanted it he'd take $18K. I was recently out of college, worked at a photo store and made about that much a year, minus student loan debt. Telling him I couldn't buy it was one of the most heart breaking automotive things I ever had to do.
I stull like the 12-valve sound better, especially in the 164-s with a hot cam and long, resonant exhaust system. I had a tape recording of 0-1xx mph runs I ddi with my old 164-s made with a Walkman D6, one mic clipped to the wiring under hood next to the air-box, and the second clipped to the rear diffuser next to the exhaust... I have lost the tape, otherwise I would share the audio here, as it was spine tingling, but this video from someone else is not bad.
