@facw -- My (mis)understanding is that Japan has no great excess of electricity over and above baseline needs, even with the recent re-thinking of their post-Fukushima determination to get away from nuclear energy.

It's a reminder of how few indigenous energy resources Japan has in general. Something like 94% of their primary energy sources are imported fossil fuels. At this stage in their nuclear restart, maybe a fifth of their electrical generation comes from the total of nuclear, hydro, and non-hydro renewables. Most of the rest comes from coal and natural gas; they're among the world's leading importers of both.

Petroleum is of course almost entirely imported as well, the great bulk of it from the Mideast.

So, they're relying on imported energy of one kind or another to operate vehicles. I think hydrogen just looks different to at least some of their leadership than to most other nations.

They were hardly Aston’s little sibling - back in the glory days they were about 5x the size of Aston and Ferrari combined, going mano a mano with both of them on the track, and selling you a big-ass luxury saloon for the other slot in your coach-house at the same time.

Though I agree mano a mano with Ferrari (and to a lesser extent Aston) is where they should be going again, rather than chasing Bentley. It’d separate them from other brands in the Tata stable, and super/hyper/GT cars are likely to be the last survivors of the SUVpocalypse. It’d take a shitload of money and talent to make it happen, but Tata has the cash and the UK isn’t short of engineering talent in that niche. The CX75 was a huge missed opportunity to set them off in that direction, IMO.

Which is an idea that’d tailor well with @nickhasanexocet ‘s one of selling them to Rimac. A Ferrari rival would slot neatly under Bugatti.

@Ad-absurdum-per-aspera I read any downturn in government fleet purchasing the last few years as almost solely a thing of pandemic supply chain challenges. Having bought three government work trucks in the last year, it has been completely a game of snapping up anything even remotely close to what we wanted that was available, and nothing is available anyway. The one truck I tried to order sat on the books for 11 months before Ford simply said "no." Not even shifting the order to 2023 production, just flat out cancelling it. I ended up buying something close enough that was a special order someone else elected not to take delivery of when it showed up at the dealer. Another one of the trucks was a similar deal, where someone backed out of the retail order, and the dealer started calling government agencies on their list to see who wanted it.

Strategy 1: Intimidation.

Strategy 2 (for the hardos): The student’s writing dramatically improved in a week, and when I asked them to rewrite as much as they could by hand, it was completely nonsensical (this was a small, one page assignment).

I told both students I applaud them for their creative use of technology, but this doesn’t really work when your teacher has been reading your work for almost two years, and actually gives a shit.

I have another suspected paper. I asked the kid to send me a digital copy so I could run it through a program. He played cool, but has yet to send me the file.

The compressor inlet to the tank is also threaded, but it's (IIRC) 1/2 inch pipe. I put a tee and a regulator in there for high-demand tools, and it works like a charm.

I actually have a small starter kit that he recommended in his comments once. I'm by no means a pro, but I've picked a few locks at work on people's desks. I also have the kit for breaking open any cylinder lock. Those things shouldn't even be called locks!
