But BMW, LR, Jeep, and other brands generally don't have such deep flaws as having a central computer go out after so many memory cycles. Sure, they have mechanical issues where things break sooner than is typical but it's not planned obsolescence or gross incompetence.
Also, a window regulator is a hell of a lot different than a central computer which controls pretty much everything in the car. And the whole point of an EV is reliability, so no, I don't think reliability is overrated.
Oh, that first part is debatable. BMWs had a run of engines with severe issues, Land Rover is notorious for electrical problems, and the Wrangler can have a "Death Wobble" .
Point is, it's not uncommon for an enthusiast's brand to have severe issues that are dangerous or could "brick" the car. Yes, the Tesla's central computer with failing memory cores is bad, but design errors and poor quality control are not exclusive to Tesla.
And no, reliability is NOT the entire point of EVs. It is a side benefit of an EV to have less moving parts, which means less potential failure modes. Though I imagine no one who has actually researched and focused on reliability to choose a car has chosen a Tesla.
