My impression from the start was they just wanted the sub-blogs gone... just because that’s what upper management wanted.
Blaming it on the potential legal liability would only hold water if it was done after the legal changes went through.
In my view, blaming it on legal liability was always a bullshit cover story so they could do this without pissing off their readers.

I’ve seen this bullshit “we can’t do it because of the legal liability” before.
Reminds me a bit of the “we have to crush all these EV1 electric cars because of the liability” bullshit GM pulled back in the early 2000s.
That was also a case of management just wanting something done to meet their less-than-honourable objectives of fighting the ZEV mandate and using “legal liability” as the bullshit excuse.

That situation boiled my blood as much as this one.

And they don’t realize that by doing shit like this causes management to go from “hero to zero” in no time... and it’s very hard to recover the company reputation after pulling shit like that.

I still have a fantasy of somehow acquiring one of the surviving GM EV1 cars, buying the necessary ports to re-enable it (which I think can be sourced from a company called AC Propulsion) and then drive it and park it in from of GM’s headquarters.

@sony1492 me too. I’m supposed to be working now but I just keep mashing refresh over there to see the shitpost hurricane not letting up. I just want to see the page all of a sudden sit unchanging kind of like Deadspin did when the whole staff quit, go archive a snapshot of the final day then all of my posts and make a home here. I’m not sure I’m really going to go back to Jalopnik all that much anymore with how unusable their mobile site has become.

@vincentmalamute Yes! That is unacceptable, I totally agree with you. I've been pretty fortune with the few companies I have hired for various things. I think growing up in the trades has helped me develop a good BS detector for the incompetent boobs who unfortunately populate the trades en-mass.

@pyramidhat older cars have so much open space around the dash, usually under it too. Don't like the feeling of 2ft of dash pressed up to the steering wheel and wrapping around every possible inch in newer cars.

Also, that watch is awesome...I'm still rocking the Timex Ironman Triathlon I've had since Grade 9 (and I'm 34) because the damn thing is just bloody invincible.....well, except for the straps...I've gone through like 6 of those...

@taylor-martin Yup, I do have BeamNG! They upgraded Beam awhile back so my computer doesn't like to run it as well...mostly a RAM thing (I have 8GB)....another 8GB is on order 😛

Haha, yeah, I've seen 'reviews' on the Ape on Youtube where people called it an 'Ape' (as in monkey)...but it's Ah-pay as in bee, like you said! The Vespa is Piaggio's little 'wasp', but as the Ape iss their commercial vehicle, you just have to name it after the resilient worker bee to keep up the theme! 😛

@ita97 That would be amazing - carry a mirrorless sensor and lens to slap on the back of a phone. Would have been amazing back when I could travel. Got tired of packing my DSLR so just resorted to taking meh pics with my phone most of the time.

@taylor-martin Yeah, its a nice fleet, and my buddy married into an awesome family. He himself has a Ford Raptor, Lancia Integrale HF, an Audi UrQuattro Rally car, a Volvo 940, and his wife rocks an S60. He recently sold a Peugeot 205 GTI, and before all these he had an STi and several Land Rovers. His dad and brother are both big Porsche guys and have owned various flavors of 911, a 944 Turbo, and a Cayman S. I am lucky to have friends with awesome tastes in cars.

The people who will pull the plug are probably laughing at us bashing Sim Jpanfeller.

It was great, Circuit Ricardo Tormo seems difficult to find passing places unless the chaser has a distinct advantage in edge grip. It was a solid plan from Miller but Franco was fast.

Yeah, some nimrods are going on about how Mir wouldn't have won against Marc, but Marc isn't there so "Winnings, winning".

He was great for that first part of the seasons. I firmly believe the Yamaha was the quicker overall bike for those tracks until they went to Austria x2 . Half way through both the Suzukis found some sort of second wind against Yamaha and Ducati. It's actually very strange.

We all love Vale but I think the sun is really starting to set. Tough year for him.

@skyfire77 Ok, so they're on orbit, but there's a couple of issues that they're working on: three of the four heaters on one of the Draco thruster pods are malfunctioning, regs say only two can be out of commission, so that may be a problem if they can't work it out, and the thermal control system was spiking on takeoff, and the primary and secondary systems faulted, leaving the redundant system to carry the load. Mission Control rebooted the systems, but they're still working an issue with the cabin temperature.

I love Blade Runner. It seems that all dystopian movies and TV that followed irritatingly copy BR's take on urban scenes. Asian signs, 3D holographic building sized ads. I just started watching Altered Carbon and they do the exact same thing. They had a lot of money so it looked decent.

"the reason I like 5th Element so much is the LOOK" It also had better acting, chemistry, humor.

On the thread of copying things, I tried watching Dark Matter. They're copying everyone. They copied the Firefly cast without the wit and charm.

I had to replace the head unit on my brother's car awhile back....got one from a 2010 Accent at a salvage yard, his car is a 2009 Accent, so it was plug and play! ....2010 was the year they changed the color of the dash lighting though, so all his dash lights are lime green and the radio is blue 😛

A 250GB 850 EVO is what I have as the OS drive in my Win10 desktop, along with a 1TB Western Digital mechanical drive (WD is by far my preference for mechanical hard drives....I have an ancient 80GB WD drive somewhere with over 11 years of powered-on time and not one error....they make good stuff!) 🙂

My Linux Mint 20 MATE laptop has a 500GB Seagate mechanical drive atm, but I have a 500GB Crucial MX500 SSD sitting to my right to install when I get around to it!

Any suggestions for a super cheap (...like $15-20) Nvidia video card with HDMI I could throw into my Linux HTPC? It's got a 1GB Radeon HD3850 in it, but older Radeon cards don't play well with Linux sometimes as AMD's Linux support for them was crap...I don't need gaming quality, it's strictly for watching TV and surfing the net on when I'm sitting on the couch in the living room! 🙂

@jminer Thanks! I really wanted the (sort of british racing) green they had but given I bought it used, super stoked with the blue as well.

@looseonexit Colours are better but as someone who used to build custom truck decks as a job the rear REALLY bugs me for some reason.
